And there's my monkey wrench.... Endoscopy issue

Recommended Posts

I had my endoscopy today, my pre-surgical testing was scheduled for tomorrow and I was scheduled for surgery next Thursday. When I awoke from my endoscopy, the doctor told me my esophagus and stomach are full of ulcers. Super. They took some biopsies to see if it's from H-Pylori bacteria or something else. I have to follow up with him in 4 weeks while I'm on meds - and they'll repeat the endoscopy. So surgery will now be the end of October. I'm ok with it. I'd much rather find out now and be able to treat than not find out prior to surgery. I've been on a liquid diet for 7 days already, so I'll call my doc tomorrow and see what she suggests I modify it to. I'm thinking 2 Protein shakes a day and a light meal instead of all liquids. Just a minor delay. Soon enough....

Oh...have you had severe heart burn or pain from all of the ulcers? I had severe heart burn last year. It made me think it was my heart and I was having a heart attack. Luckily it wasn't. ;)

My endo showed I have a hiatal hernia and Gastritis so they also did a biopsy to test for the bacteria. Hoping to get the results soon. Tomorrow will be one week.

I had the scope and I had the HP heavy dose of antibiotics cleared it up. But they found that I had celiac disease. So that's good to know for planning everything out. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
