Good day,

Feeling a bit bummed. I got my approval to be sleeved on 10/12, but I went to my PCP to start my pre-op yesterday and was told my heart rate was quited elevated; 120bpm. When taken for the third time it went down to 102bpm. However, my pcp prescribed me some meds to reduce heart ratet and I have to have a sonogram next Tuesday. While, I know its just a precaution, I feel it may be a major set back...trying to be positive, buts its hard. Has this happened to anyone? Just wondering.....

My husband and I both had to have cardiac clearance for our surgeries because we are over 50. I passes, but his heart rate was slow at times ( usually around 40 bpm) and other times racing. He had to wear a heart monitor for 3 weeks and once he was sent to the ER when his heart dropped to 14!) Just last week he had a pacemaker installed and his surgery is on hold for 3 months now.

My surgeon required an appointment with a cardiologist just to make sure there are no heart issues. You may have to do one too. Think of it as a chance to make sure all of you is healthy.

Cardiac clearance is par for the course. Don't you want to know why your heart rate is up????? Bariatric surgery won't do you any good if you have a heart attack first. I know we all don't like delays, but delay is not denial. Hang in there and get this heart rate issue resolved first. Your doc is just looking out for you.

I had an EKG done before surgery. I tend to have a faster heart rate, even now that I'm thin. Also, I used to give blood when I was around 140-150lbs years before I had my sleeve and my heart rate would go through the roof. Some people call it white lab coat syndrome and it happens when you're at the doctor and your heart rate and your BP go up because you're nervous. I'm not nervous at the doctor or giving blood, I was a paramedic, I love blood, doctors, and gore, lol...but still, even now my heart rate and bp are both elevated when I have them done in a clinical setting. No idea why.

@cynthiann...congrats on you being cleared, but wow a bout your husband...I am sorry to hear that. Is he doing well now? The good thing is that the proper steps were taken prior to surgery. The clearance is much needed, but this thing is such a long journey.

Thanks, Shakiki. He is doing ok. His heart rate is staying at 60, but he is still feeling a bit tired and sometimes unsteady on his feet. He is so supportive of my journey through the weight loss. I hope he is able to follow through and have the surgery in 3 months.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
