Just because I can eat it, doesn't mean I should!

Ugh! Did some experimenting with some foods I used to like. Actually really glad that they made me feel crummy. I will be much more careful with my choices from now on.

I've been trying to figure out why I cannot seem to get into the groove at school this year. I know it's partially still about recovering from major surgery, but a friend who knows I had the surgery Enlightened me today. I used to bury my feelings of frustration with food. Now I actually have to face them and try to deal with them, no more hiding them under stupid food choices any more.

I was very happy when most of my old favorite foods didn't taste as good or upset Frankensleeve.

It really helped me stay on track.

Even after 3 years, my old favorite hamburgers don't taste as good as I remember them pre-op.

So now, everytime I have a "favorite food" memory and am tempted to try them again,

I remind myself that

a) they just don't taste as good as I remember and

B) the amount of calories I'm eating ain't worth the lack of flavor! :-)

yeah i am learning this also, my sleeve I am learning fast can tolerate pretty much anything just a month out (minus a few dairy issues) as i have been experimenting with what I can tolerate. (I am allowed to try new things progressing from soft stage to whatever i an handle now)

So at this early stage I am making the whole "just because i can, doesn't mean i should" be my new motto. I am making my own little rules for myself which are mostly compliant with my NUT's programme (which is fairly relaxed compared to many) I have found myself taking a bite or two in between meals of something I fancy - which I am putting a stop to even if it's with my calorie and other guidelines that type of thing for me is a slippery slope!

I think while we are in the early days (first 1-3 months) we will learn a lot about ourselves and our old eating habits and trying to get the news ones fully established before some of the hunger etc returns.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
