How often do you see you surgeon/NUT?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what's your follow-up plan after the sleeve?

My doctor told me he would like me to stick to this plan:

SURGEON: 1 month appointment, then every 3 months during the 1st year, then every 6 months during the 2nd year, then annual visits

NUT & PSYCHOLOGIST: month 2, 4, 6 after the surgery, then every 6 months, then annual visits at year 3 and on.

I'm wondering if this is enough? Of course I can always book an appointment if there's something going on.

What I don't get though is, given that maintenance is much more difficult than losing weight, why do they limit the support so much in year 2-3 when you are likely to hit your goal and get into trouble...? :)

That's way more than mine suggests. I see surgeon and NUT at 2 weeks, 1 month and 3 months and that's it for the surgeon. Then I start back up with the weight loss doctor every six months for two years and that's all they recommend. You're right, I guess we could make more appointments if needed. My doctors are an hour away so I'm glad to not have to take off work and go down there too often.

I think it varies per surgeon. My follow-up schedule is

2 week post surgery

1 month post surgery

3 months

6 month

1 year

every year after.

My surgeon is very hands on.....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
