I don't want to go to the ER again...

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, hoping someone might have experienced this... A couple days ago I had this severe pain in my belly button region, doubled over, worst and unusual pain I have ever had. Go to the ER (it's 2 am when this happened) I am thinking a gallbladder attack- after all I am a few mo post op and I heard this can happen. They thought it was a kidney stone, they did a CT scan and didn't find anything other than a uti. They gave me some pain pills and antibiotics and sent me home. Since then, I have felt a little weird, almost like my intestines are numb or stopped working. I listen to some bowel sounds and hear them, though slightly diminished on the upper left quadrant. Then what really baffles me, I took the ultimate dose of milk of mag and stimulant pills...and nothing... It's like it's stopped. I don't want to go to ER, nor do I want some poor nurse that has to stick her fingers up there (tmi- I did and there's nothing). Anyone have any ideas?

Have you stopped passing gas? Are you vomiting? Are you taking ursadiol? If the answer to the 1st 2 are yes, you need to return to the ER as you might have an obstruction. Alternatively you might feel poorly because of UTI

No not on ursadol, to the second question- yes but with forced difficulty. I I don't have any pain anymore..I don't really feel anything at all below the waist and I have been drinking Water like a maniac. If I show up again, I don't think they will find anything, they didn't even note my tiny stomach on the ct scan....

You probably don't have an bowel obstruction or else you'd be in pain and sick as a dog. I just had my sleeve last week but 4 years ago I had a small bowel obstruction and Was in the hospital 5 days with a tube down my nose and required surgery. Far worse than my sleeve experience.

As long as you are passing gas and not vomiting after everything you eat or drink I would say not to a bowel obstruction. You would be in so much pain you would be almost screaming if it was.

I would take it easy for a few days. Keep drinking lots of fluids (cranberry juice) and see how it goes. The pain pills can make your bowels sluggish so be careful with those. Sometimes antibiotics can make us feel a little weird and since you have a smaller stomach now you may react a little differently to them IMO.

Thank you all for the kind words and advice, I think I let the whole thing get too far by not drinking enough Water and not listening more to what my body needed. I am ok now, had to double my lax dose, but glad it's not a blockage. Guess I can look forward to gallbladder problems later on. :)

Just keep taking your ursadiol and you should be ok.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
