Congrats! My date is also Oct. 8th. For me there was no real insurance struggle. I decided to go for it, talked to my primary, she didn't hesitate to refer me for the sleeve. I was required to do 12 weeks of bariatric surgery preparation classes, and then I was ready. The proccess took 3 months from the time I made the decision to to being able to pick a surgery date. I'm with Kaiser by the way. ????

Ruby, which location of Kaiser are you with? I am with West LA and my pcp said "I do Not recommend it, I've seen many people with lifetime of complications!" He actually spent 30 minutes with me on why I should not consider surgery. (I appreciated his Ernest concern) he did give me a referral reluctantly but I am little scared now. Anywho, he refered me to Health Education, is that how the process start?? Also, how long after the referral did you hear from Kaiser?

My procedure is being dine at West LA. But my primary doctor is in the Kaiser bldg in Inglewood. Yes the thev12 week options classes are done in Playa Vista. It takes a moth after completion to be scheduled. But during the 12 week classes they do blood work on you to make sure that you dont have Hpylori which is an infection in the lining of the stomach. It causes you to have complications as far far as healing goes in your procedure, so theyvtedt you in options class for it. If they do findvthatvyou have hpylori its sets your surgery back by 2 months because thats how long it takes to be treated. I found out I had h pylori during options class, had 2 be treated for it twice, and it set me back 4 months for surgery. They test you for it, it takes a week to tell if you have it, then you take antibiotics for 10 days, then you must wait 8 weeks after you finish the antibiotics to be retested. If you retest for it to early say like 6 weeks after you finish the meds. It will show that its still in your stomach, and then they retest you again and start the 2 months treatment process again. I tested positive for hpylori 3 times, so that's a 6 months delay. I finished my options classes in late Feb. My hpyliri test finally came back negative in June.

Oh. And I called Kaiser myself the same day my primary referred. I didnt wait for them to call me. I was so excited that as soon as I left my primary after she emailed over my referal I called to see when the next options class was, and started options asap.

Hollywood Kaiser has sooner start dates for options. Playa Vista Kaiser options classes start new classes every 2 month or so.

@@Ruby Woo, thanks!! It must've an ordeal to be delayed 6 month! I just got a call for the orientation and from there I guess you can sign up for Option class. You are right about classes being full, my orientation is not until 10/14. At least I am getting the ball rolling!

I just keep thinking of my surgery date as the start of my new, thinner life! I'm excited! I should be nervous but I'm not. It's because I know this is the right decision for me. @@Edie, 19 days! Wow!!! @slipstacey, think of all the positives that will come after your surgery!! That's what keeps me from being nervous. We all can do this!!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
