And I my little flower wish I had come to the decision and sought it sooner. At 72 think of all painful wasted years I spent obese. But I thought it was too late, many people said over 60 you had to die fat. But you don't and I won't, close to your REBIRTHDAY date I too will be having RnY surgery, mine will be at OSU-Wexner Medical Center in Columbus Ohio and my doctor's name is Bradley Needleman MD, the chief of Bariatric Medicine there. When Frustr8 does it, she goes for the Gold! I love forward to sharing my surgery month and possible date with you! Curtsying and big😝Smile!

Cheri-J. I am also 56. I'm dreaming of a world of no arthritis! While I know that won't happen, I know my

flexibility and movement will increase and my pain level decrease.

So, for all of you, what do you think the biggest advantage of being 50 something when you have bypass is? Biggest disadvantage? Biggest struggle?

From my pre-op perspective, I think the biggest advantages are that I'm mature enough (theoretically) to know what I'm committing to and that while I do want to look and feel better in my body, my driving motivation is health and living the second half of my life well.

Disadvantage - I spent so many years in physical and emotional pain and bondage- always fighting with my weight and losing. There are ways in which I've done irreparable harm to my body.

Biggest struggle - this will probably change after surgery but right now it's probably that investigate and analyze and over-investigate and over-analyze.

Best wishes to all you 50 and 60's wherever you are in your journey. Let's stay in touch. Sometimes I feel like the majority of people here are getting sleeves (which makes me over-analyze! Lol) or are half my age! Love learning from them but also treasure insight and support of others who are in my situation.

I know this is an old post but this so applies to me right now being less then a week away from surgery. I feel all these things you wrote about. I wonder how you are doing 3 years later? I’m so glad this thread was revived!

Praying for quick and smooth healing for you. I will be a bypass baby myself in July, just later in the month. Excited at 72 to finally reconstruct my life in a better way.😛

Good for you! That whole age thing - what the hell? People are living longer and longer. Why should someone's life in their 70s be less valuable or satisfying than someone in their 40s? Or ANY age. I'll be having mine at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD by Dr. Andrew Averbach. He's the big kahuna of bariatrics there. Good for us! Keep in touch!

Will do, you are very pretty in your picture, one of these days I'll post one. I have been fighting so,long for this , I told Tomkitten , I look old and drawn and my colors off. He said Mom you're just tired today, you're really pretty,to,me and I don't think you're old. See why I keep him around? He loves me and has faith in me even on days that I feel absolutely unlovable. He says my day is coming soon and I am going to rock this! And I have to believe he is right about all this.👉👸👈🇺🇸

A Senior Thought for all of us.

I’m 55 and am looking to do a revision from lap band to bypass in September. I currently weigh 240 the highest I’ve ever been at 5 ‘2” and am hoping to get down to 150.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
