Surgery on Thursday... weird question though...

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for surgery on Thursday of this week (less then 48 hours... eeekkkk) and I have not been put on any type of pre-op diet. Is this normal? My doc said nothing to eat or drink after 9pm the night before surgery but no other restrictions prior to surgery... Is this weird or am I crazy?

Thanks!

G'day kranky,

I've not heard of that happening but, as I've mentioned in previous posts elsewhere, each surgeon and situation is different...

Due to my weight, I was put on four weeks of liquid diet pre-op.

Others I've seen have been a week or less. You're the first I've seen (in my short time here) who has had no pre-op diet.

I guess you should just enjoy the freedom up until Sleeve Eve...

Good luck!!!

Kinda...

I've seen people on here say they didn't have a pre-op diet. Everyone's different, as is every surgeon and their instructions, apparently.

The pre-op diet is to shrink the liver. (Fatty livers are a big problem for surgeons trying to cut a stomach). Did they do an ultra sound or CT a few weeks ago to check?

My surgery is scheduled for Sept 16 but I was also told no restrictions right up until night before. I thought it was weird too, but I'll take it! :)

Trust me I'm not complaining. I just thought it was odd especially after hearing about everyone talk about their pre-op diets and stuff. Well one more day till the big day... I sort of feel like it's the night before my wedding all over again, lol.

I have been advised on a liver reduction diet which is Proteins, veggies and fruit only for 1 month prior. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before. No week of Protein Shakes or Clear Liquids prior either. Bottom line is every surgeon has different guidelines based on their experience. Good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
