Hello all! I had my surgery on August 12th. I have been doing Clear liquids since the 13th. I am supposed to start a Protein supplement to stir into my Clear Liquids starting tomorrow, but I don't know what to get? I am amazed that this process doesn't feel real yet. I have very little pain and am not hungry...yet. The scale has moved down 3 pounds, but I can attribute that to the clear liquids. Any suggestions for the stir in Protein supplement that is safe for the first week??

Thanks in advance.

Heather

I also had surgery Aug. 12th. Was 296 day of surg. Am 282 5 days post op. Yesterday I felt physical hunger for the first time. This morning, I drank 4 oz of RTD whey Protein Shake and later ate 2 small bites of plain soft scrambled egg. My surgeon is Dr. Clayton Frenzel and he recommended Isopure flavored Protein Drink from GNC for my clear liquid stage. they come in many flavors but are all considered a clear liquid , I bought the grape, tastes like a non- salty watered down Gatorade drink. I usually add about 4 to 8 oz to my ice and water(I have a 32oz drinking cup) and sip it all day. each serving is 40g of Protein. They are big bottles , so you can get atleast 2 servings out of each. fellow Aug. 12ers....

Oh man, I just tried the Isopure Clear Protein Drinks and was so disappointed. I could absolutely taste the Protein, it made me want to gag.

Oh well, there are other things I can do!

I have put the New Whey protein in the same bottle as isopure and I thought it was much better diluted than isopure. They're cheaper too

I am walking more each day. I had my first trip out grocery shopping with the husband, and was very worn out afterwards. It seems like everyone has a different post op plan. I am on strict clear liquids for the first week, only 1 ml at a time every 15 minutes...I have a timer I use that I would like to smash! LOL

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
