Bloated and gassy after 4 weeks postop

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experienced feeling gassy and bloated 4 weeks post op?

I had been feeling fine when all of a sudden BOOM I started feeling this way. When I get up from my seat it feels strain on my tummy, when drinking it's a little uncomfy not too much, and gassy. Oh and my tummy is bloated around the incision areas compared to yesterday morning. I starting noticing this uncomfortable feeling after my first low impact workout Wednesday night. FYI I called my doc and waiting on call.

Thoughts?

You may want to reach out to your surgeon on dietitian for some advice. I know when I was having sever issues with gas and bloating after surgery, and stupidly trying to eat salads on 4 weeks post op, I was suffering from server gas and bloating pains. I wound up taking Gas-X along with some Papaya enzyme supplements to help get my digestive system back on track. In addition to those I also started taking a probiotic gummies too. Those things along with Fiber has pretty much kept me gas and bloating free for the past 5 months.

Papaya Enzyme Supplements:

Probiotic Gummies:http://www.walmart.com/ip/Digestive-Advantage-Probiotic-Gummies-Dietary-Supplement-80-count/28830944

Fiber:

Now I'm only taking the Papaya (daily) and the Fiber (ever other morning) and I haven't had issues with gas or bloating.

Are you running a temperature at all or have chills? When I spoke with my surgeon today about gas pains, these are the things he asked me and stated with worsening gas pain, I'd need a CTScan to check for a leak. With the introduction of new exercise today, I wouldn't panic but I'd definitely put in another call to your surgeon just to be on the safe side.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
