Girls- what kind of problems did you have with your period after surgery? I've had a couple early and now for two weeks long. I've heard abnormalities are normal for weight loss, but need some reassurance.

Yes - all part of this journey. my first one was 2 weeks long and I bled ALOT!!!! AndI mean..... alot.

Here is my advice,

Remember - talk to your gyn just to be sure. Mine recommended an extra Iron tablet when I go over 3 days (my normal was 3 days pre-surgery).

I also notice, I am no longer regular. One month is was 28 days and then next month was 56 days.

good luck!

I didn't have one for 3 months! Started thinking the surgery thru me into menopause (age 46) but no other symptoms. My periods used to be regular on the dot and last 7 days very heavy. My first one was lighter than usual but only 4 days! Awaiting #2 now... assuming it is on schedule but no guarantees. I wouldn't be mad if they only came quarterly!!!! Hahahaa!

My first one was SOOOO bad it was heavy and I thought I was dying. Then I skipped two months and this month I got it super early and really really heavy. I talked to my gyn and she said when you have rapid weight loss that it can through off your hormones and reak havoc with your cycle. I got the depo shot and said I'll deal with my cycle when I'm done with my main weight loss. Good luck to you

Ugh I'm getting my first period just two weeks out. I'm having some really bad cramps. I don't think I'll be stepping on the scale for a few days. Super bloated.

I'm 10 months post op and haven't had my period for 6 months. At 38, I am now going through menopause. It is suppose to be from losing a large amount of weight quickly.

I got my first one 3 days after surgery ... and without being able to take Midol anymore ... it was horrible! Cramps and post-op pain? UGH !

I thought I would be lost without my Midol ... but doc says I can take Tylenol rapid release gels ... and those help for the most part ...

The 2nd one was 1 week early and seemed to be pretty light ... cramps were still there though ...

I agree with previous comments about it being because of weight loss ... But hey ... as long as the weight is coming off ... I'll deal with cramps !

Did anyone else experience a temporary stall or slight gain during your period? This is my first one post-op and kinda want to know what to expect.

@

You know I didn't even think about it, but my stall was with my period.

My period is still regular and I have a copper IUD. We will see if it changes, but I have never had lady issues. Light to moderate periods, regular, with no cramps.

I had "extra" ones or didn't have one until my 4th month. One thing not in my Pre-Op paperwork was how screwed up our hormones get due to the rapid weight loss/estrogen.

Just an update... after waiting 3 months post op and having a mild 4 day one (so much better than preop), I can report that my 2nd period just came 28 days like clockwork! So now let's see if it is gonna be 4 days and average or 7 days and heavy like the old me!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
