Should I cancel my surgery? Help!

Recommended Posts

i see that i have 12 replies but for some reason i cannot open page one of this thread. This is my first posting on this website. When i click on page one i get a very long blank page with an icon for "featured surgeon" and can't seem to close it. i am assuming all your posts are hiding behind it.....thanks for your responses. I can't however read them : ( I do see the last two entries on page two. Thank you for your responses.

I am not sure why that is happening. I use the phone app.

@@Alex Brecher may be able to help you.

You have received some thoughtful advice. I'll try to copy my response fore you.

This is a tough call, but my initial reaction is that I would go ahead and do it. Why? Because even if you need a week or two to recover, and barring any major complications, you should be better and healthier sooner than if you put off the surgery.

It sounds like your daughter and the new babies are going to need you a great deal and being physically healthier will help you to help them.

I don't know your starting point, but I started at an extremely high weight and have mobility issues. Fortunately I had an easy recovery so started to see improvements in my mobility and energy right away.

Only you know for sure, but based on what you have shared so far, I vote you go ahead.

Keep us posted on how you and your family are doing.

I agree with everyone I will say go for it the babies will be taken care by the hospital and they won't be much that u and ur daughter will be able to do but at least when they get home u will feel much better healthier to help ur daughter. And yes ask ur daughter and see what she thinks I know this surgery takes a while to get them done so don't lose the chance of already been set to start ur new life... Trust me u will want to be healthier and lighter to handle twins :P

Best of luck!!

I would personally cancel life does throw curve balls but it's not often they are that big. I would want to be there for my daughter and grandkids and wouldn't mind waiting an extra 6 months for such a situation like that.

I answered earlier but it sounds like you can't see it. I said to ask your daughter what she thinks. Ultimately I would go ahead.

What I didn't say, was that I was sleeved on 8/8 and went to work for a few hours on 8/13 (yesterday). Today I went in for about 7 hours. I may continue to leave early for a few days early next week.

So, back to work in less than a week. This isn't a surgery that is going to put you on bedrest for six months.

I also say do it. You have other family (you said you had a meeting) let them know you r doing the surgury, If sis goes into labor one of you needs to get me there. You won't be able to lift (or anything that resembles a cruch) till inside tummy heals. But by the time babies come home you'll be on the road to recovery and looking for something to keep you busy. Good luck in you decision.pkease let us know how everything works out

Had a long talk with daughter yesterday and we have decided to roll the dice and have the surgery as planned on Sept. 9.

I'm going to spend the next couple of weeks getting my ducks in a row here at home.

Two things on my agenda.....

1. What is the best little blender (those bullet kind) to buy? I've been pricing them and the prices are all over the place.

2. Whats your favorite source of liquid Protein. I'm sure the stuff my dr.s office sells is super expensive.

Congrats on the Grandbabies!

1. I already had a Magic Bullet, and it was great for pureeing Soups and such. You really only need it for the week or two that requires purees.

2. Premier Protein ready-to-drink are highly recommended. I personally like the big tubs of Syntrax Nectars. They have a huge variety of flavors and 23g Protein for only 100 calories and 0 carbs. My favorite is the Cappuccino flavor and the Fuzzy Navel.

What a considerate mom you are. :) I would have struggled with this as well. I also agree with Miss Mac. You sound like the person who is always putting others in front of yourself. You deserve this. I am glad you decided to go on with the surgery. After all, it is best to do it now before the babies are here. By the time they are here, you will be well recovered and able to enjoy them. Your family is so very lucky to have you. ((hugs))

I'm glad you're going ahead with the surgery. It doesn't surprise me to see the hesitation with you and others saying to cancel. We are so used to not taking care of ourselves and worrying about everyone else, it's hard to get out of that mode. Those babies and your daughter will have the best care possible, and you will be up and at em before you know it to help out and hold those sweet babies! Good luck with your upcoming surgery and the impending births of grandbabies!

I bought a couple of blenders before surgery and really haven't used them much. I didn't have a purée phase, though. I do use my blender bottles, though. You might want to consider a small blender or immersion blender.

For my clear phase I used a lot of the ProtiDiet liquid concentrates that my surgeon's office sold. To me that tasted better and were easier to get down than the Isopure.

My favorite Protein shakes are Premier, Syntrax nectar, and GNC Lean 25 but tastes vary so you will need to experiment and find what works for you.

My surgeon allowed a couple of the ProtiDiet Soups during my clear and full liquid phases which really helped because the sweet shakes were tiring for me.

Best of luck with your surgery. I am glad you decided to go through with it while your daughter is under a doctors care. I don't think either of you will regret it when it comes time to change all those diapers!

I would do it. It will give you the extra energy emotionally and physically to take care of her and you. I was back to work after 10 days and I'm 52. I'll be praying for all of you! Those little babies are lucky to have such a wonderful grandma!

I already owned one of those hand held immersion blenders, which I hardly used. I hated pureed foods so I stayed on the full liquid phase a little longer.

Premier Protein (chocolate flavor) shakes are my favorite.

I think you made the right decision to go ahead with your surgery. I was pretty much recovered after 5 days.

Hi Pink Girl,

First of all congrats on the new babies! I will keep them and your family in my prayers . I had my sleeve, with gall bladder removal and a surprise hiatal hernia repair on August 10, just 5 days ago. I did not have any complications (so far) have followed my surgeons orders very closely and have tried to really walk a lot. I feel pretty good today but I can honestly tell you I think it would be a bad idea for you to go. Not only will it be physically and emotionally exhausting but you will be in pain still as well as have wounds that are still healing. My suggestion would be to either use technology and be there via face time or Skype or talk to your surgeon about the possibility of scheduling for a later date. I hate that you have waited so long and now have such a difficult choice to make. Blessings!

Amy

I would still go through with it if it were me. I was back at work in two weeks (though I could have at one). My energy was a little low, but nothing I couldn't handle. By the three week mark, I had more energy than ever!

There will ALWAYS be "something." Always. When is life ever perfect and predictable? I trust you'll be able to take care of YOU and your needs and still be there for your daughter. Babies in the NICU will not be able to be held much the first week to few weeks (depending), so just being there for support is the main thing. And that can absolutely be done after surgery.

As for meal prep - remember, most of the first few weeks is getting in Water and Protein shakes! They are sold everywhere and ready to go.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
