has anyone put weight on?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am writing from great Britain. I was banded in Nov last year (06) and have since had 2 fills. I find that I have managed to put on 20 pounds. The band seems only to have reduced some of the food types I can eat including many healthy ones like fresh veg and fruit but I can still eat large quantities. Has anyone else had this?

I am totally depressed about it. I have currently 6mls in my band

The band was not designed to reduce the type of foods you eat, as the Doctor's stated eventually you will be able to tolerate any kind of foods, you should just work on eliminating the unhealthy ones from your diet. You have show some self conrol when, I have read several post throughout this forum about how people can eat so much before and after their fills, you may need another fill to reduce your appetite. Talk to your Doctor and your nutritionist and advise them of your problem. Make sure you choose healthy foods, don't snack between your 3 meals and try to control your portion size, if you do eat more than 4 ounces of food make sure it's something that is healthy. Are you getting in your excercise? I wish you the best of luck, keep us posted.

battynatty, the band is merely a tool to help you feel satisfied earlier and hopefully be able to push away from your plate sooner. The key is WHAT you put in your mouth. Did you have any visits with a nutritionist or dietician around your banding?

It is very easy to eat though this band, the bad stuff goes down really well (as you have learned). Pies, jellies, custards, ice creams, crisps, Flake, etc. It slides right through and takes much more to fill you up when you're eating things that go right through the band.

In the US we are taught to eat our hard Proteins first (fish, chicken, beef, cheese, etc) about 2-3 oz or so, then eat our veggies, then if there is room, we can have carbs. It takes longer for Protein to be processed than fats, so the satisfied feeling should last longer. If you are hungry later, then eat a little more.

I don't know if this will help you, I hope it does. I was only recently banded, but started eating this way in late January and was able to fairly effortlessly lose almost 50lbs. I also started tracking everything I put in my mouth (liquid AND food) on a free online service such as fitday.com, mydailyplate.com, sparkpeople.com, etc. I never "counted calories" perse, but it did give me a chance to see just how much I was taking in and I think that helped me make different choices.

I'm no expert, but I think you are in desperate need of a fill! You should have had more than two by now, eh? Call you doctor's office and see if you can get in for a fill! Good luck!

Cheers,

Toni

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
