Saw my surgeon yesterday for pre-op final visit. Got my blood work, chest x-ray, and 10 days of Optifast shakes and bars! My practice does 10 days of Protein shakes followed by 2 of liquids only.

I am very excited and I can't wait - surgery is Monday 8/24 Yet I find myself emotional and teary-eyed at times and I don't even know why.

anxious maybe??

Oh yea - I had to put over $20,000 on 3 credit cards, no thanks to my 'no bariatric benefits' insurance policy!!

I don't blame you for being emotional. It is exciting to think about the changes to come and your new life. I can't tell you how many times I read posts on here and see photos of people reclaiming their life and it make me tear up. You can feel any way you want to feel.

Hi! I'm new here also. Surgery scheduled for Aug 27th. Having similar emotions, ups and downs, sometimes excited, sometimes teary! Not sure why but glad I'm not alone :)

I am the same surgery day and have the same exact emotions. I feel like I am breaking up with food and super sad. I am ridiculous.

Since we had it the same day, how are you doing? Feeling? What has been your hardest part so far. I am having a hard time swallowing down anything. I am liquids in, not all of them but some but man is it hard.

hi NJ mom! I wish I could tell you how it was - I checked in and got prepped - when the anesthesiologist came to see me and check me over he sent me home! I'd been at the shore for several days and had a sore throat - I thought it was nothing, but it looked bad to him - plus the fact that I was running a low-grade fever. So no go - which I think was probably for the best. Back on the books for early october. I hope that you are comfortable and recovering well!

Oh I am so sorry to hear that! I had mine on Monday and I am shocked how hard it has been. I have been very nauseous every day and every single time I try to drink anything. It is so hard to reach my liquid intake amount. Today was better than yesterday and tomorrow will be better than today, I have to keep positive. We can stay in touch for when you have it in October and maybe by then I will be encouraged and can encourage you. Right now I have been a bit down but I can see I will start to round the corner soon.

Glad to hear that you improve every day! In some ways it''s hard to get a take on all this since everyone's experience is different. Are you actually not hungry? (I can't imagine not being hungry - story of my life!)

Are you able to drive yet?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
