Hi Everyone,

I may be wishful thinking:-)

However, after surgery exercise is key. I'm aware that strenuous exercise isn't advised. Now with that being said, could I have a few of you weigh in on the thought of line dancing or Salsa for exercise? Also any post ops reading this thread how long did it take you to feel like line dancing or anything in that nature?

A month should be fine.

Line dancing isn't exactly digging ditches.

I would think Salsa would burn more calories. Zoomba would give you a good start because it teaches you basic steps for several latin dances.

That sounds fun too! When are you starting? I was telling my gf ...I got fat doing nothing just working (sitting) 8 hrs or more, sleeping, eating and sometimes sex...lol when I'm up for it. And at my weight now it ain't often. With My New Life I Want To do All The Things I Said I Want To Do ... but never did...Salas was something I wanted to do. yoga etc....

I'm going to be off for at least 8wks starting new healthy situations and habits will be a goal for me. Moving more, enjoying people and life . Getting away from just sitting and sleeping. ^_^

My surgeon told me to do NOTHING that uses core muscles for 6 weeks post-op. I think line dancing would be okay, but certainly not salsa dancing.... the twisting of the core wouldn't be good. He even considered telling me not to ride my stationary bike because it uses core muscles to keep me upright. He said the incisions may be healed but the insides aren't.

Be careful

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
