Hi, new to group from Toronto

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just found this group. I am going to have my procedure on July 13th. I live in Toronto. I am currently on the pre-op diet of low fat or skim milk, yogurt, and cottage cheese. They did not provide any suggestions as to how much I can/should have each day - any ideas??

Thanks, Carla

I was told that we could have as much as we wanted, but it didn't take long before you didn't want very much!

no ammount, eat as much as you like, i'm guessing that they choose those foods because they don't have sugar which goes to the liver. But trust me, after a few days, you will be so disgusted by the yogurt and cottage cheese you wont really eat too much. It's hell...but you have to go through it.

Welcome Carla! Yup the pre-op diet is awful, but it's kind of like a rite of passage. Once you have gone through it you can brag about it!

Congrats on your upcoming surgery.

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery Carla. I too am from Toronto. I wish my pre-op consisted of yogurt and cottage cheese. I was banded at the SWLC in Mississauga and their pre-op diet consists of 3 Optifast Protein Shakes and 225 calories of green vegetable a day. It was a rough time but at the end of it I had lost 23 lbs and it was well worth the struggle. As Susansilver said, once you're done the pre-op diete you tend to brag about your success. :clap2:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
