Will bladder control issues worsen?

Recommended Posts

I have a bladder control problem. It's controlled with medication, but when I drink a lot of fluids, I tend to have accidents. My concern is with all this Water we are supposed to drink. I'm not banded yet, but REFUSE to wear a diaper to be thin. Do any of you out there take detrol for bladder control and have problems with all the water and liquids? ?

I have/had a bladder control issue. Whenever I sneezed, coughed, laughed, I'd "leak". Enough so that I was wearing a sanitary napkin every day to prevent my leaking on my clothes. I complained to my doc a few times and finally he sent me to surgeon and they put a "hammock/sling" in. This gives my bladder support so I don't leak when sneezing etc. It's been a life saver!

You know it some bladder problems are due to excess wieght. Weight loss might help with your issue.

I had a bad bladder problem. After losing my weight I no longer have to wear a pad. Two blessings in one. Good luck to you. That was one of the questions on my seminar forms.:P

thanks, i was wondering about my bladder possibly getting better after the band and dropping weight. I too suffer with the dreaded cough, sneeze leakage!:( I will be hopeful, thanks for your input. Get banded on the 21st jan.;)

Aubrie: Before I was banded, I would get up two or three times a night to use the restroom. Plus, I was always running to the bathroom during the day. Honestly, I thought that was normal, because I had given birth to two babies.

Anyway, my bariatric doctor told me it was not normal and it could be considered a qualifying factor for bariatric surgery. She told me that once I had the surgery and started losing the weight, I would notice a difference with my bladder.

My doctor was right in my case. Once I had the surgery and lost 30 pounds, my bladder problems resolved. I don't get up in the middle of the night anymore, so I am able to get a good nights rest. And I drink lots of Fluid. So go figure. I really consider myself lucky to have had this procedure.

I also had the cough, sneeze occasionally leakage problem and always wore panty-liners just in case.

It has been completely resolved since banding and weight loss. I no longer even think about it. I can now say that my problem must have been weight related since my loss made it go away.

I guess I should also mention that my problem resolved itself at around 30 pounds of weight loss. I did not even have to lose that much for it to make a big impact.

Me to Heather. I didn't even think about it until I read this thread, but yes, coughing and sneezing would cause an issue for me pre-band.

I wrote the original post, and I'm proud to say I'm completely off bladder control medication. My OB/GYN told me it would be possible as I lost weight and he was right. I've been off the meds for 6 weeks now.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
