Another Stall Post.....How Many Calories Do You Consume?

Recommended Posts

My sister and I were both sleeved on July 14. We are indeed happy with our decision to live a happier, healthier life. Nonetheless, we are both experiencing stalls (and have been for two weeks). I know it's only been 3 weeks since the surgery, but it's still frustrating. We are beginning to incorporate more foods in our diet, so it's understandable that we sometimes second guess what we consume and/or wonder if we are doing something wrong. {My sister even joked that our sleeve was broken -- we know it's not really broken...wink wink}. My question to you, my fellow sleevers, what is/was your daily calorie intake at this stage, and moving forward. We are limiting our carb intake and getting Protein wherever we can, but we also want to ensure we are consuming the correct number of calories.

I was told not to concentrate on the calories two weeks out. The main focus was Protein and Water for healing. I was lucky to get in over 500 calories a day. Since I could only eat a tiny amount, I just made sure that it was high in protein.

You're not doing anything wrong. A stall early out is so common, it even has a name (The Dreaded 3 Week Stall). The body is just adjusting to the fast weight loss and lack of calories.

Right now your job is to worry about hydration and protien, not calories. That will come a little later out. Give yourself time to heal, stay hydrated and get that protien in and the stalls will pass.

I was sleeved on the July 13 and I've been in a stall for over a week. Actually it says I went back up a pound so I feel your pain:/ ! However I am told it will get better and I get between 400-600 cal a day right now and 60-80 grams Protein

Your body is still healing and swollen from surgery. I know it's easy to say, but hang in there, it will come off.

Thank you everyone! this site! Better than any doctor's advice! Thanks for the reassurance! I'll continue to push and get my liquids and Protein and "weight" (get it, weight ) for the pounds to fall off.

@

And you know after seeing post after post about stalls 3 or 4 weeks out I always wonder....why don't surgeons tell people to expect them and that they are completely normal??

You are so correct! They should mention this during the process! I think they want to romanticize the surgery, as not to deter patients from getting it done. They should know, with so many success stories, the mention of stalls would not deter patients. It would only ensure patients are informed!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
