Why Am I Dropping Weight So Slowly?

If it makes you feel any better, I'm 7 days out and have only lost 4 pounds. Disappointed but also trying to trust in the process. Also, I'm purposely trying to be mindful of my Protein intake so that I don't muscle waste. We have to remember that the weight on the scale is just a number and not indicative of the whole picture. I was just thinking that surely 80% of my stomach weighs atleast a couple pounds! ????

You're doing just great! How much we lose at first all depends on a lot of different things....starting weight (the lower the starting weight, the less lost at first) age, gender (males lose SO MUCH FASTER!) .

Yeah, a pound a day is great for the first few weeks. But don't expect that rate of loss to continue. Expect a stall soon (the dreaded 3 week stall) and after that, the weight loss happens at a more "normal" rate (2-4 pounds a week). Just follow your plan, keep hydrated, move a little, and you should continue to lose at a fairly steady pace. Try not to compare yourself to others, either. Good luck and congrats!

Can you help me? I take in 80-100 grams of Protein a day, speed walk on the treadmill for 1/2 to 45 min a day and incorporate some chicken, veg & fruit, and get all my Water plus some in. I am not losing how I think I should be. Any suggestions, corrections?

Have you talked to your NUT? You may just be on a normal stall.

Yeah ditto what others have said, a pound a day is a LOT!!!! It will slow and stall and start back up again throughout the process. Keep your expectations realistic! You won't keep losing it this FAST be happy!

To Santiago Draco and xrayyoung22, thanks for your motivation. But if 1 pound a day is the norm, I embrace that fact with enthusiasm.

my NUT said the lbs are not an indication of weightless the percentage of fat is the most important not your BMI but your amount of fat in your body, I have lost .5% in a week post op and I'm excited about it, I only have lost 6.6 lbs post op be positive and be careful of too much weight loss at once, I am meeting quite a few people that lost 70lbs in two months and now are dealing with ailments due to rapid weight loss life threatening and debilitating. It's about getting healthy and having a strong tool. Good luck on your journey!

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
