So from what I've read the average weight loss for the sleeve is 55-65% of excess weight right? But in what time frame? Is that supposed to be in 12mo? 12-18mo? 18mo? Or ever?

Don't worry, I know I can lose more or less, I'm just curious to know.

My surgeon said I can expect to be 230 lbs (SW 347). I won't make that by my 1 year mark (Aug 25th) but I'll definitely make it by 18mo (currently 261). I'm wondering if my surgeon will be disappointed with me on my 1yr check up or not.

My doc told me the weight loss pretty much caps off at 2 years, so if you haven't reached goal by that time, you probably won't be getting any more help from the sleeve. He said that your body does adjust at that point to the amount of food and level of activity, and you would be back to working hard "the old fashioned way" to lose weight/gain muscle.

But he did say that he wanted to see me hit his goal within 1 year or so. Thing is, I have no idea what his goal for me is actually (guess I need to ask?). He mentioned early on that he wants "70% of my excess weight off" but I have no idea what he considers excess weight since going by standard height/weight measurements won't work for every body type, especially mine (I'm a big boned, big boobed girl and always have been even as a teen before I gained all my weight).

I have MY goals, and I'm pretty sure I'll come darned close (and be thrilled with where I end up). I honestly don't care what he wants me to be, I'll stick with my own ideas about what weight will be a happy place for me.

I have lost 87% of my excess weight ! I'm just under two years post. I lost probably 80% of that in the first year alone. I've been maintaining now for about 8 months. I still personally would like to lose 18 more pounds but I'm not pressing the issue at this point. I will get there eventually!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
