Hunger after intense exercise

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 6/5/15 and last Saturday I did my first 5k (pushing a 40lb toddler in a stroller and I finished in 53 minutes!) and after we did a little walking around an amusement park and some swimming. The next day and since I have been really hungry... About every hour and a half to two hours (sometimes less) I feel like I need to eat. Is it normal to have this sudden intense hunger so soon after surgery or is it because of the intense working out or is this head hunger? Not sure how to handle it.

I was sleeved 06/10/2015 and about 3 weeks after I started experiencing hunger spells but was told it was "head hunger". After I started working out I have been increasingly hungry and ALL the time. I was told it was due to my metabolism increasing as well as me personally needing to increase my Protein intake.

You need to fuel your body. Make sure you are getting good carbs before a workout and Protein after a workout. If you increase the intensity of your exercise, you need to increase your food intake as well. When I really upped my exercise intensity a couple months post-op, I added a morning snack (between Breakfast and lunch) because I found I was STARVING by lunch time. So, I added a reduced fat cheese stick as a morning snack and that really helped. I also added some granola or kashi Cereal to my afternoon yogurt for some carbs before my workout (I work out as soon as I get home from work, before dinner).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
