I have no clothes

Recommended Posts

I am giving away clothes like crazy. I have been banded a year and have only lost 40 pounds, but all of my clothes from last year are too big. I have some great clothes that I like a lot, but they have to go. Luckily, I know some ladies who can wear them, but I'm going to go broke buying clothes that more or less fit. I went from a size 20 pants to a size 14 pants so I have a whole lot of expensive size 20 pants. Lately, I've noticed that all of my blouses are too big. They are 2X and seem to have a lot of unnecessary cloth. I bought some extra large Alfred Dunner blouses and they fit. So I'm going to have to buy more new clothes. It's wonderful, but expensive. I try on old outfits to see if they still fit. So far this summer, I've discarded 5 or more outfits but I haven't tried everything on. I did go shopping in the spring to get some summer clothes that fit but now I'll have to do it again in the fall. They don't tell you about the clothes expenses when you get the lapband. But I'm happy to buy new clothes and only hope I get some smaller ones before long. I'm glad I know some people who can wear the old ones. I go to a special Koret sale 3 or 4 times a year and all of those clothes are too big. My friend, Kayla, can wear them though they aren't exactly tight on her. But I'm glad Kayla is around to help me out. I think I've supplied a whole wardrobe for her and I still have some more to go. Isn't that wonderful?

I can't wait until I reach this point! It's funny b/c I have people already putting dibs on my clothes...and I haven't even had the surgery yet!:)

I, too, have a lot of great clothes that I'll have to get rid of. It will be so expensive for me to build my wardrobe back up. I'm just worried about not really having anything b/c you can't buy too many things in one size b/c you won't be staying there long. I'm a big clothes shopper, so this is kinda stressing me. I love to look nice and feel good in my clothes...oh well. I guess I will have to cross this bridge when I get to it.

Prior to banding I would have never set foot in one, but I have been getting some of my things from Salvation Army and the Goodwill stores. I figure I'm only in a size for 4-6 weeks before I've shrunk out of it, so there's no point in spending good money on things I will wear for that short amount of time. I've found some nice things there, too! I also shop on eBay for clothes.

Whatever happened to the clothes swap that was mentioned here before? I have some size 18/20 business clothes that I am ready to send away. Otherwise I'll just donate them locally.

What a fabulous problem to have!!!

I've been shopping at Goodwill too! Same as Nathalie, not that I ever thought I would, but at $1 to $5 each for pants/shirts, dresses, whether it be dress or casual, I've found some really nice stuff! Many of the pieces I bought were never worn and still had the original store tags on them! I spent about $30 and got 8 shirts and 5 pairs of pants a few weeks ago -- you can't beat those prices!! :clap2:

My local support group is doing a clothes swap so I'll be taking all of my "too big" clothes there and donating them. I was going to send them to Goodwill but I think I'll give them to some fellow LapBanders. :)

I'm so glad to hear that others have the same problem. I am slowly getting clothes that fit, but I watch "What Not to Wear" and it's unnerving me. Our local Goodwill doesn't have much since they ship the good stuff to the cities, but I haven't given up. But my wardrobe has really shrunk. I buy stuff on eBay since we don't have a good Salvation Army place. But I may try the Salvation Army in Tulsa. They have some really nice clothes. I once saw a leather coat there. Unfortunately, it was about a size 5, but there's always hope. Luckily, we have a Goodys here which helps a lot though one never knows what size to buy. It's amazing how sizes differ in women's clothes. Why can't we be like men and just buy whatever fits our necks.

Some items of clothing can be altered at very little cost. And then, as you shrink out of things that are not worth having altered, or can't be altered, eBay is a great place to sell your old stuff, and buy new.

Altering is a good idea assuming we had any tailors in our town. We don't. We have some women who sew, not very well. So I just look for bargains on new or used clothes.

I don't know that I have actually been to a tailor to have any alterations done. Usually, I go to the local dry cleaner. Or my MIL.

I have about 15 size 22/24 blouses that I need to pass along, if anyone is interested. Nathalie, if you are still looking to give those 18/20 clothes away I would love them! I'm at that size right now. PM me and let me know. Thanks!

My problem is pants. I am in between sizes. The plus size 18's are way too big and the regular 18's are tight. I desperately need to find some pants that will

fit right.

I've been buying long and short sleeve Super T-shirts from Lands End. They are nicely made, and you can dress up the long sleeve ones. So far, I've gone through 4 sizes of them, and still going down. At $12 each, I just keep replenishing the wardrobe until I hit goal weight and am reqdy to do some serious shopping.

until last weekend, I literally had about 15 articles of clothing left in my closet!!;)

It was to a ridiculous level... BUT like you've all said. It is so expensive to start from scratch with the wardrobe! UGH!

I finally went and got about 8-10 blouses for work and two new pairs of work pants. I tried to stick to the clearance and sales racks... but it was still about $200 in shopping... WHICH considering the amount of clothing i bought was great, BUT still $200 GONE!

I kept one pair of pants and one shirt that I used to wear. Just for comparison. From now on, it is pretty much all new!

Well, I went shopping today. Got blouses in x-large not plus. Felt awesome!! Penny's has a great sale 60% off right now. Really helped alot. I'm getting tank tops and buying blouses to layer over unbuttoned and as I lose I can wear them seperately and buttoned too.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
