I would give anything for a Diet Coke...

Recommended Posts

It's been 3.5 weeks since I have had a diet coke, and I am frequently day dreaming about having an ice cold can of DC! I was drinking a super big gulp everyday before my VS. I plan to give them up for good, because it is so bad for your health and because research has shown it leads to weight gain. But truly, giving up diet coke is harder than all the other foods I am giving up. Yesterday I went into a 7-11 for my kids, and I felt like an alcoholic walking into a liquor store. And believe me, I am by no means making light of the struggle addicts go through on a daily basis. This is so hard for me!!

I quit smoking before the surgery, and giving up Diet Coke was harder for me, lol.

I feel your pain! When was your surgery, I'm 5 months out and do not crave much of anything. I was a Coca Cola addict. It was nothing for me to drink cokes all day seeing that McDonald's is right across the street from my job. I generally averaged (4) 20 oz at work and another 2 to 3 (2 liters) when I got home. The colder the better. And yes my acid re-flux was getting worse by the minutes. It was funny tho, right after surgery I craved eggplant Parmesan. I mean I would dream about it to the point of salivating. Funny thing is, I never had it before.

We are told any kind of carbonation is the devil! LOL!! I get that way sometimes for a Pepsi. When I do, I will buy one, take two swallows out it (Just enough to get the taste) and throw the rest away. I didn't do it until I was about 6 or 7 months though.

Diet coke has always been the only thing that would quench my thirst. I love Water and that's all I drink now (just not interested in flavored waters), but it seems I have cotton mouth all the time, no matter how much water I drink! I just crave the coldness, the carbonation, and the neutral flavor!! (This is just me venting instead of going to get a coke!)

Yep- missing my Coke Zero! My doc says carbonation is ok after the first month, but I'm going to try to stay away.

Now that's interesting that your doc says carbonation is okay! I really wish these bariatric surgeons would all be consistent with their rules. I think it would make things so much less confusing for folks.

Someone told me they had a friend that would do the slurpee made with diet coke ( not sure if that really exist, it may be regular coke) Anyways, they said the carbonation is gone which I do remember from my years of slurpee drinking. I drank decaffeinated coke zero from the can. I really miss it????

I'm letting the fear of there being a small particle, of an infinitesimal smidgen, within the thinnest crevice of an outside possibility, of there being the remotest chance of an adverse effect, keep me in line.

I've been looking for a reason to break off the affair, and this will serve nicely.

They call me Pollyanna.

I can sympathize with you and this is just day one of me giving up Diet Dr Pepper! I always have one in the am (I was never a coffee person)! I am pre-op and my pre-op diet starts next Monday but decided to ween myself off Diet Dr. Peppers early! I think this will be the hardest thing to give up!

Diet coke junkie here too. I haven't had one in over two years . I'm now a water-oholic. I've faced it, all my positive changes are forever. (Sigh)

I had a serious addiction to diet coke. I broke myself of the habit before I would allow myself to schedule my surgery. It took me months of stopping and starting. If you didn't break the habit before surgery, it may take you several months to get past the craving. But I promise you they will go away!! Hang in there!

Just the thought of drinking something cold and carbonated has me doubled over in pain! I think that's an addiction I'm truly over!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
