Weight Loss With No Fill

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anyone has lost a significant amount of without having a fill? I read somewhere that there are the "rare" few that lose quite a bit w/o needing a fill. Just wondering if any are out there.

Depends what you call significant. I lost about 30lb pre my first fill - and that was more than 1/3 of the total weight I needed to lose.

But I had really good post surgery restriction for about 8 weeks. I did NOT lose 30lb with no restriction.

My first fill is next week. I've lost 58 lbs, including the 23 I lost before surgery. I have some restriction, but also I think that the decision to have the surgery has given me more 'mental' strength than I had previously.

It's all just a function of how tight the band is on the stomach. Smaller bands might very well not require adjusting for some time after surgery, maybe never. I think it will become much less common for people to never need fills as larger bands are more frequently used.

<p>I Had My Surgery On 6/18 And I Have Lost 15 Pounds With No Restrictions Since Surgery. I Get My First Fill In About 18 Days Although My Appetite Is Returning. The Doctor Said It Is Normal To Lose A Lot Because Your Stomach Is Healing But Its Very Common To Gain Some Back In The Next Two Weeks Since The Stomach Has Healed And You Will Be Able To Eat More.

I'm down 32lbs and am supposed to have my first fill next week but I don't want it. I have great restriction so far.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
