Anyone start pre-op diet early?

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about starting my pre-op diet (Optifast) a week early. Has anyone else done this? Thoughts please!

My pre-op diet is 4 weeks, so I'll have plenty of time on it! That said, I did pick up a sampler pack to see which items I liked....

My doctor said not to start early reason being at the 10 day Mark your liver is as small as it is going to get. That any days over that your body starts adjusting and liver size will increase.

I started drinking Protein Drinks and tons of Water all day and then just eating whatever I wanted for dinner about 2 weeks before I was supposed to started my 2 wk. liquid diet pre-op. I just felt like I wanted to get myself in the right mind-set before going totally liquids only. And I've lost 13 pounds already! I'm supposed to start liquid diet on the 14th. And my surgery is scheduled on the 28th!!!

Thanks everyone for replying! I really value the input. Still in two minds about what to do, I might try increasing my exercise to be better prepared for surgery instead of starting Optifast diet early.

I'm supposed to start Wednesday but I'm thinking of starting Monday. I have a weigh-in at my final pre-op appt on Wednesday and I need to drop a couple lbs before then. ????

Has anyone experienced a feeling of being sad and pissy all at the same time while going through the pre op diet? Is this normal? I have spent most of the day secluded away in my bedroom, avoiding my kid and husband.

I have warned my husband that I will most likely be a beast for 2 weeks or longer. It's totally natural to be grumpy and irritable on a diet as strict as this.

I've done so good and stayed positive, today was my 3rd full day and it's really starting to wear on me. To makes matters worse, my dear hubby and rugrat came home with 2 dozen donuts. Ugh! Damn boys and their fast metabolisms ????. I hope tomorrow is a better day. I hate being in this funk.

The pre op diet was successful! I lost 12 lbs and the Dr told my sister that my liver looked perfect and tiny, just what he wanted. LOL

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
