I can't believe he said that!

I just have to vent! I went and saw a GI Dr because I have some liver damage from all the fat that got into my liver. Thank goodness I had a liver biopsy when I had the sleeve done and found this out. So I'm meeting GI Dr for first time he sees I've lost 61 lbs since Sept last year. Tells me loosing weight is the best thing to help my liver, he's pleased with the weight loss my liver enzymes have come back to normal, things are looking better. Then he asks me how I lost so much weight. Proudly I say I had the gastric sleeve done in March this year. He looks at me frowns and grimaces and says oh well that's too bad because there is a high rate of going back to being overweight. That's a shame. I was stunned! I just sat there and really didn't hear anything else he said. He seemed to rush to get things done and that was it. The more I think of it the more mad I get. I would think he would have been a little more supportive. I'm not even 4 months post op yet!! Sorry to vent but he made me so mad!

Even doctors can be morons, don't let it get to you. He clearly needs to do some more research.

Brush it off as insensitive ignorance and remember how well you have done. Amazingly well :D

Even if Dr. NoBedsideManner believed that to be true, he should never say that to a patient who's undergone the surgery. There's simply no excuse for it. He sounds like a person who's pleased with himself and likes to pontificate.

What an irritating blight on the medical profession!!! Keep your head up high!!

I would have said something like.....you mean like the other 10 times I have lost 60 pounds by myself and gained it back?

At least this gives me a fighting chance and by the way...thanks for your support.

I would get a new GI doc. I'm a nurse and have zero tolerance for ignorant docs.

There seems to be no end to the ignorance in this world, even among doctors.

Like everyone here, I am gobsmacked that an M.D. does not know that weight stabilization after WLS is 10 times more likely (50%) than weight stabilization after diet/exercise alone (5%).

Makes me want to wear a wrist guard so I don't hurt myself when I b***h-slap people for being so f**king ignorant.

Yes he was totally ignorant to say that to you. I would certainly be going to another Doctor after that !

Just use h use him and his comment as a reason to prove him wrong and not gain it back. Yes some people do put it back and some don't so try and be one of those who don't :)

Then go see him again in two years :)

Don't allow anyone to make you feel bad cause nobody is walking in your shoes !!

What a boob.... Here, give him this article to read - I especially liek the part where Doctors are giving BAD advice.

And secondly... get a new GI doc. I have a GREAT one.

My GI is the one who actually recommended/ demanded I get the surgery, and basically decided which surgery I should get! (I have Crohn's.) I would try and see if you can find another doctor; this one doesn't seem to continue his education!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
