I'm 4 weeks out and at 1,000 calories a day too. Saw my surgeon 2 days ago and he said that was perfectly fine as long as the calories are coming from lean Protein and non-starchy veggies.

He said it's not so much the calories but making sure you are hitting the Protein goals. Different lean Proteins have different calorie counts.

I am 9 weeks out and get between 80-100 grams of Protein. But I chart my intake religiously and only take in around 600-800 calories. I'm 70 pounds down, with 25 of them being from pre op. But I was a self pay so I don't see a nutritionist. Just going off of my bachelors degree in nutrition and nursing degree....that's kinda the same right? Lol

I drink Premier Protein shakes. They have 30 grams of Protein and only 150 calories. I should also probably tell you that I have a VERY small sleeve. I'm one of those hated people that never ever feel hungry.....just a light headed faint feeling when I miss eating. I work 12 hour shifts. So I drink a Protein Shake at 6am. Then eat a light Greek yogurt (great value brand, 80 calories, 12 grams of protein) around 10-11am. I eat a cheese stick (6 grams of protein, 50 calories) around 2-3, then drink another protein shake when I leave work at 7pm. When I get home I nibble on whatever my husband had for dinner. Generally I'll have about 3-4 bites of chicken or hamburger or whatever protein he made. I drink to bottles of Water while I'm at work then work on a third before I go to bed. I can drink fluids pretty quickly, but can't eat anything thicker than puréed very well. I definitely can't/don't eat bread or starch in any way shape or form. I throw in the 40 calorie fudgesicles, edie's Popsicles 30 calories, Refried Beans with cheese and sour cream on days off, cottage cheese. I'm not great with fruits or veggies yet. I hope this helps!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
