It's the carbonation that will get you. I'd be VERY careful. That being said, there seem to be quite a few people on the forum who say they have no problem with things like sodas, so it appears to be an individual thing.

Also, if you are a beer drinker and you find it "doesn't work" for you....you certainly WON'T be a beer drinker after that!!!

Absolutely! It does not work for some and does for others.

2 years post op. and used to love beer, and sodas but just now can sip them a little. I have another lap band friend who is about a year out and has no issue at all with them.

2 years 3 months post op

220 pounds lost, at goal

Life is good!

I stay away from beers/sodas not only cause of carbonation (and doc said so), but all the calories in beer and soda.. eek. Suppose to avoid all the liquid calories, and 1 beer or 1 soda is double+ the calories I should have in 1 snack.< /p>

My doc oks carbonation after the first month.... I have no problems (yet)

for ME beer would be out due to the calories and carbs....... I'd stick to a diet soda and hard liquor........... or crystal light and vodka...... :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
