Yes you can count your Protein shake in with your fluids. Every day it will get better, initially your sleeve is swollen and inflamed from the surgery so hang in there, it will happen!

Hey Sara -

We had surgery the same date and I am able to get in at least 65 grams a day of Protein most days. I average about 450-600 calories to do it. I am the particular one though and track every Vitamin and Calcium chew too. Insane I know, but I use the app you do and just watch it add everything up. Are you doing any Protein shakes? I am able to do well with fluids, I just honestly forget to eat sometimes and get into trouble there. I had to travel out of my office today and ended up low on Water so have been drinking to catch up. I realize there is an issue when I do not have to pee very often, lol. This is a balancing act. You are doing well. Your doc will tell you what you need to do if anything.

I do a Protein Shake for Breakfast, and actually, I hit my Protein goal again today. I think I was eating too much vegetables and none had enough protein. Now that I'm eating chicken for lunch and dinner, I hit my protein goal yesterday and today - I just need to work on the fluids. Counting my protein shake, I've had less than 20 ounces today. I just feel uncomfortable if I drink too much at once. And I'm busy at work and don't remember to drink any. It's so frustrating! Maybe I need to try the fruity Protein Shakes so I can drink more than one a day and get more liquids in.

I've only hit my Protein goal one day so far since surgery, so I'm not doing too good on that front. I bought some unflavored Protein Powder, added it to my crystal light, and it tasted disgusting. Plus it wasn't even near what the serving was supposed to be! So I need to work up the courage to try to add it to something else.

@@Babbs

Thanks for the guide! I feel better knowing I seem to be in that range, even if it seems impossible to get all my Protein in with that range.

I know some people don't care for it but I really like the Isopure protein Water. I will drink 10 oz mid morning over ice and get 20 gr and another 10 oz mid afternoon and get another 20 gr. between that and a protein shake for breakfast with 25 gr of protein I get 65 gr a day min and some days

More.

What is your protein goal each day

60g, I've gotten over that the last two days. Are the isopure protein Water fruity ones?

I bought powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored and tried to mix it in my crystal light like they suggested... I didn't even put a whole serving and it was disgusting! =(

3 weeks out I was getting about a 1000 calories and now at 6 mo out I am between 1000-1500 tops. I have been on a diet I can maintain for the rest of my life..I haven't had any Vitamin deficiencies and my hair has not fallen out at all. I like your nutritionist advice, it should keep you out of starvation mode.

During full liquids, I was lucky to be getting more than about 400 calories a day in. Once I was on soft foods, I think I got it up closer to maybe 650. Then once I was on solids, I pushed hard to get over 800, because I had told myself I wasn't going to start intense exercise (more than just walking) until I was getting at least 800 a day. Now I'm up to about 1200 a day, which really helps me sustain the level of cardio I'm trying to do, now that I am running a lot.

At my three month appointment my nutritionist told me to shoot for between 1200-1400 calories per day as I work out 5 days/week. Once I hit 1200, my weight started dropping more quickly. She told me my body was in starvation mode and needed the extra fuel. I am also supposed to get a minimum of 75 g of Protein but am closer to 90 per day.

Does your Protein goal decrease as your weight goes down? I know my nutritionist used my weight to calculate my protein goal, so I'm wondering if I'll have to adjust the goal as time goes on? Will I not need as much?

No, it does not decrease. It's based on your starting BMI and is for life.

It may increase if you do a lot of weight bearing exercise but the goal is your minimum.

I love this site. There sure are a lot of people that know what they are talking about :)

I don't think I could have done this without it.

Same! Even though I have a great surgeon and NUT, this site has been so helpful.

Everyone is different for sure. I'm 4 weeks out and easily getting 1,000 calories a day in Protein and veggies. My dietician says it's too high and my surgeon says it's just fine and not to listen to the dietician because I'm a band to sleeve revision. He said that's going to be different from a straight sleeve.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!
