How long do the stalls last ?

Recommended Posts

I am 8 weeks post op and have had a stall for over 2 weeks now. No matter what I do the scales are not moving down. Any idea how does break this plateau phase. This is most de motivating. Your suggestions or feedback will help please.

My stalls are frequent, but generally short. It's not uncommon for them to last many weeks, but if you're doing all the right things the scale will move again eventually. As soon as I notice the scale getting stuck, I decrease the frequency of weighing myself. I usually weigh in every day, but it's easy to get obsessive during a stall and it's important to fight it.

As far as stall-busting, I suggest changing your behavior for a couple of days. If you're exercising every day, take a couple of days off. If you're not exercising much, hit it hard for a couple of days. If you're in a food routine / rut, try something different for a few days. And always try increasing your Water intake. If you're drinking 60 oz, try for 80; if you're drinking 80 oz, try for 100. Additional Water almost always helps with whatever isn't working.

At the end of the day, whether these actually break the stall or just give you something else to think about and take your mind off it for a few days, doesn't matter. Either way, they do seem to work. :)

Good luck!

I am 4 1/2 months post op and I started my first stall starting week 6 it took 4 weeks to break it....when I increased my exercise program with strength training every other day.

I hit a stall at 8 weeks also. I was stuck for almost 4 weeks. I spoke to my NUT and she adjusted my calories and protein/carb amounts. Two days into that my stall broke and I am down 3 pounds and back on track. I wasn't getting enough calories so my body was holding on. Touch base with your NUT and see if that is the problem. It will pass.

I'm at 5 mo postop, I hit 85 3 weeks ago. I'm at a complete stand still, getting very discouraged!!!! I can't exercise much more than mowing and walking, I have a broken spinal fusion that I'm now getting fixed but the Protein intake is so hard, is that really what's doing it? My hair is falling out like crazy, I'm on Biotin too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
