Hello!

I'm in the beginning stages and have my first informational session next Monday, 6/15. I'm curious if there is anything you wish you had been told prior to surgery but weren't? Just a sort of "I wish they had told me........(fill in the blank)".

The thing I was not prepared for and brought me a great deal of stress was how fast you would out grown all your clothes. I had spent years building a work wardrobe. All to big now. And what to do with them... In the five months I have lost three sizes. I'm not complaining but just did not realize it would come off that fast. At first I would pin them around the waist and then even took out my sewing machine and altered them. But at a certain point they just had to leave my closet and house. I feel better in clothes that fit I might add. Lol

anything you wish you had been told prior to surgery

my answer is "i wish I had thought to do"

i wish i had kept better records of my journey

starting with Pre-op (situations, what was going on, problems etc)

took measurements periodically :( :(

took pictures during my weight loss

used My Fitness Plan as a way of keeping track of my food :(

kept track of my NSV's :(

other things too

write EVERYTHING down for posterity :)

since i didn't write them down

I don't remember what they all were :(

write EVERYTHING down for posterity :)

"wrapping" things up - i wish i had kept a diary/blog :(

you are just starting your wonderful journey

"its" never too late for anyone to start doing any of the above

especially YOU :)

have fun jumping through the many hoops with insurance :)

good luck

kathy

The main thing I was not prepared for was the "stalls". I had a one-week stall every month, starting with the infamous "3rd week stall". I wish I had known that sticking with my diet plan and exercise would eventually cause the weight to start falling again. Don't fool with diet and exercise, just keep doing what was working and it will work again. I wish I had someone to reassure me that stalls are normal and that I would eventually start losing weight again. It would have saved me a lot of stress. B)

I really wish I had taken more pre op pictures so I could see how far I have come. I spent years running from the camera and when I did take photos I was always hiding in the back. I have very few pre op full length pictures. Now I never avoid the camera. I even posted pictures of myself in a bathing suit on Facebook this weekend. I also wish I had taken measurements.

Good luck on your surgery!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
