Introduction....2 weeks Post RNY

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

My name is Robyn from Canada and I had my Gastric Bypass surgery on May 22, 2015. I lost 11 lbs during my 2 week pre-op diet and have since lost 10 lbs post-op. I worry that I'm not getting enough Protein and Water in as I am NEVER hungry and feel full and bloated when drinking water. I see my Surgeon on June 17 for my first follow-up post surgery and will make inquiries at that time. In the meantime should anyone have any suggestions or useful tips, they'd be greatly appreciated.

Thank you kindly,

Robyn

In the beginning your body is in a heal mode, so if you fall short of your daily requirements, don't become too concerned. Just keep working toward your goals.

I hate Protein shakes, but until your food volume increases, you have to supplement your Protein intake. There are a variety of Protein Shakes out there. Experiment until you find one you can tolerate. For me, I used Muscle Milk Light (vanilla Creme) powder blended with Water in a Ninja (single serving) blender with a half a banana added.

After surgery, I found that I no longer liked drinking ice Water. I found that flavored water (Crystal Light) was tolerable. So that is what I relied on. Later I found that fine teas and Decaf coffee worked well. If you can tolerate milk, you might try a cup of hot cocoa but you must use a "no sugar added" variety by Nesquik.

Hi Robyn, I had RNY May 5. Like the other poster said, don't sweat the first couple weeks. Just try to stay hydrated, sip by small sip. I HATED Protein Drinks myself. After the 2 week visit with the doc, he said it was ok, as long as I recorded what I ate, and I had the amount of Protein I needed. Hence, I have survived on soft eggs, tuna pouches, and soft canned meat. I cook a lot of meat in the crockpot because it is more tender. Also, 90 percent ground beef was easy for me. Be patient, you will figure it out!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
