New here, first post, feeling deflated

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I had been thinking about having band surgery for years, I finally took the plunge 3 months ago and went to see a consultant to get the ball rolling, I had my date scheduled for 22nd May, and I was to do a 2 week pre op diet (which I done for 9 days).

So the day before my surgery me and my partner are travelling by train to our hotel as the hospital is 3 hours from where I live, I get a phone call telling me that my surgery has had to be rescheduled to June 12th because they didn't receive the correct info from my GP, needless to say I was gutted, seeing as we'd already paid for the hotel we still went anyway, but I had my food freedom back plus feeling so down that I wouldn't be getting my surgery I absolutely stuffed my face with anything I could get my hands on, burgers, fries, cake, sweets, you name it I ate it.

Now I'm 10 days pre op and I'm seriously struggling to stick to this diet where as before I found it easy, yes I was starving but the thought of having the op made me stick to my guns and I powered through, I'm just finding it so hard to get that motivation back again and I don't want it to cause me another setback.

Any advice would be very welcomed :)

Oh wow! I feel your pain seriously!

But you can do it! Think about what you will get after the lap band, how much it can help you on your way to healthier life :)

I am new here too! my first post as well...I had the same issue with my preop diet it was easy at first and then I cheated and ka boom! I wanted everything in sight! I don't offer much advice only just to stick to it! it will all be worth it in the end when you are recovering and it does get easier after the surgery (it did for me anyway) I literally wasn't hungry for anything, I am only 2 weeks post op and just now am starting to feel hungry again...

you can do this! don't let these little things set you back!

@@WoodenHearts you have been through a bit of a struggle to get where you want to be. However you are on the path and your first goal is in sight!

My advice to you is to reset your mind. Refocus on WHY you are doing this to begin with, and go from there. There is something on the other side of this that you want to obtain, and the first steps are today right now.

Gear up, and get going. The past is in the past, you ate it and now it's done. Today is what matters so clear out the junk from where ever it hides. Stop having food funerals because what ever you think you are "never" going to eat again you will eat again trust me you will just eat it differently and in much smaller portions. So there is no need to cry over the foods you love that you can never have again.

Take a deep breath and raise your Protein shake, Water bottle or what ever liquid your drinking and toast to your new and happy healthy life style.

The journey begins now!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
