When did you Return to work

Recommended Posts

Remember that one of the changes after surgery is to do more physical activity, like taking stairs and parking further away, I don't know your situation or if you commute, but if you have your vehicle it may be in your best interest to leave some of these items behind, that way you don't have so much to carry and it will make you walk a little more, maybe invest in a small ice cooler so you can keep your Water for your shakes(those shakes are nasty as is so why make it worse using hot or room temp water) lastly maybe you can create a space or you must have friends at work who help you

According to the papers my Dr. Gave me the 10 pound limit is to help the the wounds heal for at least 60% and the stomach swelling to be reduced post-op my Dr. is ok with one week however, it all depends on investigation after that period my advice is talk to your Doctor and get more info about why and when is the soonest heal is expected so you don't waste the money for an ultrasound or x-ray

My Dr. says that I shouldn't be lifting anything more than 10 pounds for about five weeks. But the problem is that the bag I take to work everyday with a MacBook, some Water, and shakes (my office doesn't have anywhere I can store any of this).

I really can't take off that long (I'll probably lose my job if I take another two weeks). Does anyone have any advice?

Could you possibly get a rolling case instead of carrying that bag? Maybe a friend has something that you can borrow until...

Hey, also an RN sleeved 4/22/15. I went back 2.5 weeks later and did fine. I had been doing superb until last week when I bent over to put my shoes and felt a pop in my belly. The doc suspects I popped one of the stitches...no damage done as it was mostly healed but it hurt worse than I did right after. I ended up down for about 4-5 days with that. Take the time you can. I think I took for granted that my body was still healing and had been doing more than I was ready for. Good luck to you:)

I had surgery Thursday May 28 and went back to work today, June 2. I am very fortunate to work from home though so can take a quick nap if needed. But I felt great!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
