Total indulgence before starting pre-op?

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for September 1st. It would've been July 14th, but we have a beach trip/family reunion scheduled July 25-August 1. With the 9/1 date, it gives me enough time to have my last couple of appoint nets and do my pre-op diet. My question is this: since my new beginning is still a little ways off, I feel like I am completely out of control when it comes to food. I'm doing my best to change my mindset, but right now, I feel "like the end is near". It doesn't matter if I'm hungry or not, if I'm craving something or not, it's all being consumed. Have any of you ever experienced anything like this?

With having all this "time" before starting, I'm WAY worse than I think I've ever been. The beginning of this year, I managed to lose about 20lbs but I've found those and then some. Even with being pregnant, I believe I'm at my all time high. I don't even want to get on scale. Most of my "fat" clothes are super tight on me or don't fit at all. I know what I need to do but it's like I can't control myself at all. At the same time, I'm so mad at myself and down for not being able to "pull it together." August can't get here soon enough!

When I just read your post it felt like I was reading something I wrote myself. My surgery date is September 2nd and I am feeling the exact same way. I keep telling myself that I am going to get on track but then at the same time I feel like all I am doing is eating because I know I won't be able to eat like this anymore. And then as soon as I finish eating I feel guilty and feel horrible about myself. It's a viscous cycle.

I'm in the same boat here! My surgery will probably be this summer in July. I will be finding out in a few weeks. And I am indulging in all kinds of things, because I know they will be off limits soon!

Sam boat here as well. I am now on my pre-op liquid diet. I completely overdid it for the last 3 months.

It was hard the first day to be on the liquid diet, and still sort of hard. I have to travel a lot so I ate a few crackers I probably shouldn't have.

Everyone keeps saying take it one day at a time, and that seems like really good advice.

I had countless "last" meals. My "last" meal at Chipotle, "last" meal at On the Border, "last" meal at Chuy's Mexican, "last" burger at Whataburger, etc........ go ahead and enjoy whatever now because it won't fit. I'm 15 days post-op and can get 1 sugar free popsicle in. liquid diet wasn't hard until day 2.

My surgery is June 24th and I'm finding myself having LOTS of "lasts". Definitely not good for the scale. :( I need to get back on track too. Maybe I'll do a 14 day preop diet instead of a 10 day.

That's what I did too. Kind of went a bit nuts with the eating 2-3 weeks before preop. Now 7 days in of my 14 day liquid preop diet, I am glad I did it! I admit it!! Inknow I'll never be doing it again. Just made the first few days really tough.

On a positive note, I have dropped from 282 on Monday to 267 as of Saturday am. Lots of Fluid lost! Surgery on June 8th

Thank you guys so much! It REALLY helps knowing we're not alone on this crazy roller coaster! I can't wait to have the surgery because I think it's the tool I've always needed to permanently get to where I need to be. But knowing have so much time before getting there, I'm afraid I'll have gained 30lbs before I start my pre-op testing and diet in August. I'm not too worried about the pre-op diet as I did and Meal Replacement plan earlier this year and LOVED it. However, it was very expensive and I just couldn't keep paying $300+/mo for their products. But, I do think gonna use the products pre and post op! They were THAT good!

Be careful gaining weight, my nutritionist said you can only gain 2 lbs during the 6 months because of insurance requirements. I have no diet until 12 days before surgery. But have cut from tons if coca cola a day to one, and no Water to 8 bottles a day now

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
