Does anyone remember when Lane Bryant decided to introduce vanity sizes in their jeans collection? The only thing I ever bought at that store was a pair of jeans and when I went back to get another pair, they had a new sizing system. The sizes went from 1-10 but they didn't sell size ten in stores and a shape system: triangle, circle and square based on how your pants fit. The best part was that to determine your new size a salesperson would take a measuring tape and measure you in the aisle right in front of everyone. I was a size ten so I left never to return.

They must have received a lot of negative feedback because they have gone back to standard sizes. I have no idea how someone thought this would be a good idea.

My biggest gripe is animal prints. Why does the plus sized clothing industry think that I want to look like an oversized leopard or zebra???

Swimsuits in plus sizes just assume you have enormous boobs and for those of us who werent given boobs they look absolutely ridiculous and just try finding a plus size swimsuit that doesnt have huge built in cups

This is why I like the new trend in Tankinis where I can order different sizes for the top and bottom.

One of my gripes with swimsuits is that they all have some sort of power netting or Iron tummy panel that make it impossible to pull them up over your legs and hips.

UGH! Sleeveless shirts...not with these arms. Clothes that are shaped like pup tents...it needs to fit or it makes you look bigger. Ugly patterns...guess they have to use that fabric for someone so why not the plus sized clothes? The stores that DO carry plus size clothing but only have 1-2 of the larger ones and tons of 18/20's, they are sold out before you even get to the store. Lack of options in the first place.

So looking forward to getting into smaller sizes. ;)

I'm cracking up over all the women that are complaining because the cut out for the boobs is too big. I have the HUGEST problem, because most of the time, there was never enough room FOR mine! I'm freakishly endowed though and have always felt that I'd end up getting a reduction one day. Perhaps its coming. I'm losing band size, but NOT cup size. The smaller the band goes the bigger my cup becomes.

I hope one day to be able to get a matching underwear set. And I don't like floral prints. Why do I need to look like your grandmother's couch???

My biggest gripe? All the ads where the women look so dang happy and comfortable in their bra's.....I hate bras....who can be happy in a underwire for 12 hours a day? Not me :/ lol....rant over!

Absolutely hate the pants with 2 inch zipper...............

I want my pants to go to my waist not inches above my crouch. But then I'm almost 60 so maybe too old fashioned!

Did anyone have a large bust before surgery and have them get smaller. I have a large bust and am worried about buying bras after surgery. My bras are 50+ bucks each...i cant imagine buying a new size every couple of weeks.

Okay my rant: Size 18s are now clown pants but size 16 are too small. Camel toe is so not the look I am going for.

This morning I tried on 4 pairs of pants: two size 16, one size 16W, one size 18- all no go. I am now wearing a dress. My size 16 capris fit but other than 1 pair are all not quite dressy enough work work except Friday when we can wear jeans. I guess I am going to be wearing dresses and skirts for work for a little while.

NikkiDoc - I've found that pants by "Women with Control" on QVC fit nicely in this size range. HTH

Ooh, got one: I'm short, but I'm not a damn dwarf. Why do I still trip over pants labeled "short"? Men can buy pants with specific inseam lengths and we get "short" "average" and "tall"...and they don't work for everyone.

And why do plus sized designers assume that everyone over a size 10 has freakin' gorilla arms?

(edited because i kant spel)

I can't stand the plus size tops with gigantic neck holes. It's like you would need to wear a strapless bra with some of them because they extend so far front, back and to the sides when put on. I wear a cardigan with some shirts because of it. I just want a normal neckline please, not a huge scoop or v. My butt is huge, not my head!! Geez :)

YES! I wear a cami almost every day!

That being said, there are a handful of pretty cool options that I sadly didn't discover until it was (mostly) too late:

1. modcloth.com (only online) -- I've known about them for years, but only realized about a year or so ago that they carry up to a 4x!! Have gotten a couple cute dresses and sweaters from here.

2. eShakti.com (not sure if they have storefronts) -- Just discovered these guys several weeks ago. They have really cute stuff. Their dresses rival (but don't 100% match) the cuteness of Modcloth, and they go up to a 6x and also offer CUSTOM SIZES at only an additional $7.50 per item. Well worth the upcharge for something that fits you PERFECTLY. (Especially for the girl with big hips/butt and super narrow shoulders!!)

3. torrid.com (and in stores) -- Even though their styles are more urban-ish than I usually wear, I was able to buy a Johnny Cash t-shirt here recently. Even with losing as much weight as I have, graphic Ts are hard to come by for the plus-size crowd. I have worn the Cash shirt twice and have gotten easily a dozen compliments each time.

The 4xl option at modcloth is pretty new.. I remember first seeing them a couple years ago, and they didn't really go over an 18ish.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
