My first official appointments with my bariatric center aren't until June 24th. I'm having lab work done as well as meeting with the bariatric nurse, bariatrician and psychologist. I won't know what other medical tests I'll need prior to my surgery until at least after my first appointment, but based on my co-morbidities of GERD, high cholesterol, and pre-diabetes, what type of tests might I expect?

I did not have the same health issues as you, but I had to have an endoscopy. Which was super easy, worst part was the IV!

I did have the same comorbitities as you. I did not have to have an endoscopy but I had to have a full heart stress test, labs, and had to bring in my last sleep study and current readings.

Same co-morbidities - I had to do Upper GI/barium swallow, EKG/stress test, psych eval, sleep study and 4 NUT visits. I will have pre-op appt Tuesday which I know involves some bloodwork.

Thought I'd give a little update after my first set of appointments at the bariatric center.

During my first set of appointments I had an EKG and a ton of blood work - 9 vials worth. I also took home an ApneaLink to capture one night's breathing and oxygen levels. I didn't have any reason to believe I have sleep apnea, but lo and behold, I got a call after they reviewed the ApneaLink data and now I need to have a full sleep study.

About 25 years ago I was diagnosed with colitis. I would have occasional flair ups that would send me to the emergency room, but I haven't had an episode in about 17 years. However, my bariatrician was concerned about it, especially since I am opting for the gastric bypass. He said if they did the bypass and then ended up with Chron's Disease or ulcerative colitis, it would be catastrophic. Hearing the doctor say catastrophic kind of freaked me out a bit. Anyway, it looks like I will also end up having to have a colonoscopy and likely an upper GI series. If they do find something, it sounds like they would still be able to do the sleeve so I'm thankful that.

Next set of appointments are 7/24, wonder what they'll come up with this time? :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
