Chewing question

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on revising to the sleeve. I've had problems with my band with vomiting. Not sure if it's from not chewing appropriately or what. But I was just wondering if you don't chew well with the sleeve does it cause problems? I have a class 3 malocclusion. Basically my teeth don't meet in the back and I literally have to push my lower jaw forward to chew. Sometimes I feel this causes problems with me chewing well.

So I was just wondering if this will cause problems with the sleeve? I may try to ask my surgeon tomorrow if I remember but I wanted some input from people who have the sleeve

TIA

yes!!!! if you dont chew up your food good.....it will come back up. I am 6 1/2 months post op and I still have to put the majority of my meats in the kitchen ninja. It's a pain and inconvenience but hey......I'm down 103 lbs!!! I'd drink it through a straw if I had to.

But is it the same as the band chewing? I'm still waiting to find out if I can convert, but I'm having second thoughts. The reason I am having problems with the band is I keep vomiting. Now I'm not sure if I'm not chewing enough or what. It was worse in the middle of the day.

I had asked my surgeon and he said just cut food smaller. But I am becoming scared that I won't be able to chew completely and I will puke the rest of my life, since there is no reversal. Please let me know what you think

Thanks

I'm 4 weeks out and I have not had to be quite as careful with chewing like with the band. I was throwing up everything with the band even melted ice cream. I cut my food into toddler size pieces to make sure the bites are tiny. I haven't thrown up once since surgery and had no nausea in 4 weeks.

I have to chew food thoroughly with the sleeve just as I did with the band as long as I eat slow then there are no problems. If I eat a little too fast then I end up running for the bathroom

My understanding, based on the way my NUT described it, is that you will have to chew your food well, but the pieces shouldn't have to bs as small with the sleeve as with the band. The opening into your stomach is not as narrow with the sleeve as it can be with the band. But, you might want to run your issue by your surgeon.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
