Waiting for insurance approval is killing me!

Recommended Posts

Submitted to insurance 5/5 after 6 months supervised weight loss, sleep study, psych eval...aka the multitude of hoops insurance requires. Initially I was told approval should only take a few days, then 10-14 business days, and now most recently I was informed it takes 30-45 business days?!! What??! Every time I call my insurance company (Meritain Health--a division of Aetna) I get a different timeline, yet they all agree that it hasn't been approved yet. Anyone else have this experience. I'm so frustrated! I've been calling every few days, but it doesn't seem to be lighting a fire under anyone's butt to expedite this whole process.

My paperwork was submitted to Aetna on 5/7 and as of today still pending. Trying to be patient. Guess we won't be one of those people that only took a week.

I've been waiting since 05/06. I was told to expect 30 days for an answer. I know exactly how you feel its very difficult to wait without any certainty. I have United Healthcare. Good luck with your approval!

My paperwork was submitted 5/12 to Aetna. I am still waiting, I was told it was still pending. My tentative surgery date is June 4. I am going crazy waiting.

Insurance rep told me today that according to notes in my file they have determined I have met all the pre-surgery requirements, final approval is pending and will hopefully be granted by the end of the week according to that rep. I'm excited but don't want to get my hopes up before final approval is given!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
