Friends, I'm scared. I had surgery my RNY may 11th. I did everything I was told pre op. I had 3 weeks liq diet and I did my workouts. Surgery went well. I was in pain but did my walking and slept a lot! When it came time to try to do liquids I had no problems getting it down. Then Protein drinks. Again good. They said my pouch was not swollen and it happens I was lucky. It's now close to a week. I've healed well. Walking and strong. Drinking my liquids and ready for the puree food on Tuesday. I'm scared it's not going to work. I've even thought maybe they didn't do it right. (The dr has done thousands all successful so that's BS). It's a total mind screw. I've heard so many horror stories and saw others the same day not doing so well.

Please help set my mind to ease and tell me I'm not alone and for some people this is normal.

Thanks!

I guess I'm confused what the problem is. Your easy recovery is causing you to be anxious and worry about failure?!?! Consider yourself one of the lucky ones! I am almost 14 months post-op and have had ZERO complications (outside of a little nausea waking up from surgery.)

Thank you. I know it sounds dumb It's a mind screw for me. The 4 people I know who've had it all told me of complications. So, after all the horror stories I've heard I have it in my head that I should be having a hard time. So thank you I'm glad to hear someone else is reacting the way I am.

It helps. A lot

Stop worrying so much. You always hear more about complications that you do about positive stories.

I am 7.5 months post op from RNY. I have not had any complications and I am down 99lbs so far.

Thank your lucky stars that you are coming along nicely. The other thing to remember is you are still on liquids and won't really know how you do until you start on soft foods and regular foods.

It is too soon to tell and complications could happen further down the road.

Be thankful and enjoy!

I'm happy to hear that everything has been easy for you! I know I felt a tad guilty post-surgery when everyone else I knew who had surgery the same time as me on here experienced complications. I'm sure you will experience your own struggles as the journey unfolds, but for now, count your blessings! I never had any of the issues I thought were part of the process (i.e.: gas pains, pain after surgery, acid reflux, heart burn, throwing up, etc.).

Just remember this. In general, people are more likely to give negative reviews or complain about something vs. speak positively about something. It's a shame, but its true. People are more likely to go on review sites like Yelp and complain about a service. We rarely go and compliment or rave about something. It's sad but we are too busy being happy and getting on with our lives! This has taught me to take everything I read with a grain of salt and be open to the fact that my experience could be completely different from everyone else's! There are plenty of people who don't have the complications you read about. BP is a great resource for people to reach out to others for support when they DO need help...So that's exactly what they are doing!

Congrats!! It sounds like you had a very successful surgery. I too had no complications. I made surgery look easier than snapping my fingers. It's a mindset. I went into it deciding thst I was going to be healed and recovered in 1 week. I was told I was crazy. I had no actual pain post op. My recovery has been so amazing to me. I'm down almost 50 lbs and I feel great. I had no idea breathing could feel this wonderful. I know someone who had surgery the same day as me and has hit so many obstacles. None of which I experienced. I almost feel guilty that my surgery went so smoothly in comparison. You are doing great!!

I think I'm weirded out too from the quick recovery so I know how u feel. I don't have nausea or gas, I'm 5 days out barely, and I'm feeling really weak but no pain. Hard to get all those liquids in though

I'm 19 PO and the same here. Other than the sudden onset of hopefully temporary lactose intolerance not one problem. I think I took one pain pill after returning home the day after surgery. I am averaging a loss of a pound a day.

Had the same concerns of whether or not the doctors did the surgery as directed cause I had no problems. I think all of the horror stories and "Wish I knew that before surgery" vlogs it was natural to be concerned for a lot of us. Thinking we were supposed to have issues but then not kind of threw us for a loop.

Consider yourself lucky/blessed when you are a success!!!

Thank you ladies. I had my first check in with the Drs and the night before I started feeling pressure in my chest. So when I got there I actually had "something" to report. The nurses and other clients have me a lot more heart and chat then the drs did and I'm grateful. I felt normal by the time I left. Thanks to you all too. I'm glad to have friends experiencing this that I can reach out to!

I think I get you. I was miserable from pain but was walking quickly. No swelling so Water and Protein Shakes went down with no trouble. And besides the pain peeking through between meds it was like nothing happened. And until I finally started feeling some restriction I was a little spooked that it couldn't work. Perversely, a couple of minor complications (more side effects) made me feel overall better about it! We should probably both get out of our own heads!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
