Diana,

I had my surgery on Tuesday, May 22 and went back to work the following Tuesday. By that point I wasn't really in pain, just discomfort. In retrospect, 2 more days would have been helpful if only to deal with the fatigue.

When is your date?

Best of luck,

Margaret

I'm not even scheduled yet, I'm really just in the "thinking about it" stage.

I'm 53 and wondering how I will bounce back, will I really like to eat nothing but mush. I also have a lot of anxieties about screwing up what it essentially good health so far.

I don't even know if it would be covered, in which case I couldn't do it.

Thanks for your reply.

Diana,

How long have you been overweight? If you are like many of us here, it's been a lifelong struggle. I weighed 285 lbs when I began this journey and each day I lose a bit more. It has been the best thing I have ever done for myself! Like you, I was is pretty good health, but I knew that all the illnesses associated with obesity were in my future as the weight kept adding up.

Because you are in relatively good health, you will bounce back from surgery just fine. And the mushy stage doesn't last too long. Then it's on to soft foods and then back to solids. It's really a short time of adjustment for the reward of the rest of your life without the extra weight.

Remember the lapband is not a miracle cure, merely a powerful tool to help those who are motivated to change their life. You need to be ready - physically, emotionally and intellectually - for the changes that will occur.

If you haven't yet attended a seminar, you will find it useful. You will hear the pros and cons of lapband and be able to make a more informed decision. You can also check with your insurance company to see if it's covered (more companies cover it than ever before!).

I know that I made the right choice for my life, and thanks to the folks on this site who have given me support, advice and a kick in the butt when I've needed it, I am getting back to living my life instead of observing it! Only you know what is best for your life situation, and I wish you all the best no matter what you decide.

Keep me posted.

Margaret

I thought that I would only need a week. I was wrong. The pain may be gone but the fatigue is there and even though I sit in a chair all day I would not have been able to do it. Im just going back almost 3 weeks later. My advise would be to take atleast 2 weeks just in case. If you feel ready you could go back sooner and than if not your already covered.

I'm 25 so it might be different because I'm much younger, however I had surgery on a Monday, and was back at work on Thursday. I was still feeling a little bit of discomfort, but I'm in sales and sit in an office mostly, so it was no problem. Good luck!

My surgery was on a Tuesday and I was back to work the following Monday. I would say 5-7 days will do. Good luck.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
