I have heard your tastes change for some... but hoping I'm not one of those. I'm already a horribly picky eater (I literally like nothing but cheese, potatoes, noodles and bread! And only eat chicken/turkey in the way of meats... yea, this is gonna be SUPER HARD on me!) I have always liked SlimFast shakes for Breakfast though so I plan to keep the shakes at least for 1 meal even after I am on normal foods.

As for food funerals: Yep. A couple times a week I have been 'splurging'... I just got back from lunch with my mom at Chili's. (Mmmm chips and queso! :P ) And since I will just be getting out of the hospital on my birthday my husband and I are going to my favorite restaurant - The Cheesecake Factory - and celebrating my birthday a couple days before my pre-op diet starts... that will be thee biggest pigout/food funeral of them all! (#guilty)

I've been do food

Funeral every chance I get. I live on an island with no fast food so every time I go to the mainland I shamefully hit several fast food places trying to get on all my favorites. ..but so upset none of my skinny clothes fit. Had to buy 2 pairs of fat pants to have clothes for work. Can't wait for July 14.

Omg. I've been having food funerals every day. I am even going on a cruise before my surgery for my son's graduation. I had the lapband removed last May and this will be the first cruise in 5 years without restriction or vomitting. Scared I'm gonna let too loose but at least I know there's help for me when I get home! Can't wait to not want so much food again. This is exciting ! Good luck to us all!!

I'm hoping to have a July 6 date!! That is 3 days before my 40th birthday! I saw someone else was about to be 40 also in July. I don't know what I'm more nervous about, turning 40 or having surgery!! Lol! After rushing to have everything done for a possible June date (which didn't happen), I called the surgery coordinator and she told me that all that was missing was my letter from my PCP. I saw him on May 19!! So I called this morning and asked if it could get faxed over to the surgeon. I couldn't believe it. So the next date that will work for my job will be July 6.

I have been drinking soda like crazy! I love soda and have tried to give it up several times, just to go back to it. And I know that it will probably be gone after surgery. So I'm indulging now! So bad, I know!!!

It's me! My surgery is 2 days before my 40th! I'm super excited about my surgery and super sad about turning 40. :'( I was going to have a big party for my birthday but now will be in the hospital. Oh well... I think I'll Celebrate my BIG 4-0 on 41 with a new thinner me.

@@thinner-me

Totally understand the soda thing. That was my last vice to give up. I've been soda free for 77 days now. It was horrible and I really still want a Pepsi more than anything but I figured I'd rather have the soda/caffeine withdrawls now instead of when I'm miserable from surgery and loss of food after surgery.

I found out Friday that everything was submitted to the insurance company Thursday. I'm so excited!! I think once I know my date for sure, I will be more motivated. I'm in a funk right now because of some personal stuff and I am looking forward to some positive news.

I haven't been doing any food funerals. Personally, and I'm only talking about myself here, I feel like they are a habit that I got into with every other diet or eating plan that I have been on. This is going to be different. I had been on the waiting list in 2013 to have the surgery done in Ontario (where it would have cost me nothing), but I moved out of province so I wasn't able to have it done. And in Saskatchewan, where I live now, there is a years long waiting list to even get the initial appointment to have the surgery done here. But I still have the handbook from when I was in Ontario, and they are fairly strict. I've been following that plan. I cut out all carbonated beverages almost a month ago now. And I cut out junky snack food (chips, cheesies, chocolate) this week. As of the 20th I need to be down to only 50 grams of carbs per day, according to my surgeon, so I'm easing myself into it. I'll cut out bread, Pasta, and rice next week. It seems to be working for me.

Just got my date set for July 7th! Was hoping for a week or two sooner for scheduling reasons but I'll take what I can get! Just wishing I was on the other side already

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
