Hello

I had my sleeve done on May 4th, 2015. From the time I awoke in the hospital I have felt sick. They sent me home on Tuesday with only pain meds, a breathing thing (to aspirate my lungs-so no clots) and instructions on to 'SIP' my drinks. Well three days in and I was gagging a lot, throwing up and have had constant diarehha. I recently discovered something else I didn't have before Surgery...a hemroid! And I wasn't pushing anything out. Anyways I finally called the Dr's office and the nurse on duty said, "have you been taking your anti spasm and anti nausea meds? I said, "I wasn't sent home with any scripts but the one for pain" She was surprised and called me in these two life savers!! I feel a bit better but I need HELP. Here is what I am experiencing and if you can help me God Bless you.

  1. I can't stand the smell of food, on my husband or daughter...it makes me feel nauseous.
  2. I can't get down any Protein and was really proud of myself for eating 3 popsicles yesterday and not throwing up!
  3. I tried my protein and promplty threw it up...so a bit off of it right now
  4. I have no energy...I am depressed ... when does the hell end?
  5. I have explosive diarehha that I cannot control all the time
  6. I wake a 3 am and can't fall back to sleep unless I drug myself..Insomnia.

Please help me?

Thanks

Lisa

Okay

I went thru very similar vsg on May 4th as well.

1.in recovery I was nauseous/dry heaving and they placed a patch be hind ear for nausea and in iv drip as well. I think you need stronger anti nausea meds.

2. Concentrate on staying hydrated....if you feel you are dehydrated (dry mouth and not peeing) go to emergency room and ask for iv fluids.

Great advice mremilio. I too will piggyback behind him and say during the first few days it's really imperative to focus primarily on your liquids don't push yourself on the Protein just yet. Just worry about making sure that you stay hydrated & that you get plenty of rest so you can heal. hopefully in a few days you'll start feeling better and then you can start pushing the protein.

The most important thing after VSG is staying hydrated. I agree that your anti nausea pills are not strong enough. If you can not take pills and liquids are working then maybe just try a patch or a suppository. If you can't keep liquids down, yes I recommend you go to the doctors office or even the ER to get some fluids. Sorry for your problems but I think some of us if not most of us experience these moments. Hang in there and this will pass. Good luck!

I agree with Veronica, if in doubt go to the ER to get hydrated and ask for a stronger med for nausea. Work on the fluids first and when you are feeling better try SF Carnation Instant Breakfast, it is a milder way to get Protein when mixed with 1% or skim milk. Once your new stomach is settled you can try adding the heavier Protein Drinks back in. Hope you feel better soon!

Does your surgeon's office even ALLOW Protein right now? Mine has patients on clear fluids after surgery, no protein drinks allowed until the "full liquid" stage.

I think Sharon1964 had a great point. I was not allowed Protein or it wasn't a true concern to my surgeon for TWO weeks, I was on a Clear Liquids only diet. You should discuss this with them in depth. I had crystal light. Water, Decaf diet tea, and broths of all kinds. I wasn't hungry, didn't feel hungry and was able to keep it all down.

My surgery is next week.... should I make sure my mom knows how to record on my phone in case I start speaking in tongues or licking the air?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
