9 days post op and I am HUNGRY!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 1/28 of this year and have been hungry ever since! My NUT says I am one of her few patients that have been like this. The only time I am not hungry is right after I have eaten and still have the "full" feeling. I'm not saying I eat all the time, but I could! I have not let it slow down my weight loss but it has been another difficult thing to deal with. You are not alone.

In 2 dys I will be 3 weeks post op. I've been eating solid food but I've been chewing it over 30 times before I swallow it. Can't eat but3-4bites before feeling like its gonna come out my throat. I'm doing great . And feel great.

I had my VSG just 14 days ago and I can tell you that my hunger comes and goes. I emailed my Dr's team and they advised I was probably not getting enough Protein. Sure enough, when I increased my Protein it helped the hunger subside. I also have to remind myself to constantly sip Water. Its easy to forget to do. I also have to stay on a strict schedule for eating. If I miss a meal / snack by an hour or so it can seriously exacerbate the situation.

So for me, adding protein, sipping Water constantly, and staying on my prescribed dietary schedule helps keep my hunger in check. If I miss anyone of those things I will feel like I have not eaten in weeks.

Hope this helps!

I totally agree with @scrosler. I'm sipping on Water all day get as much Protein as I can and eat sugar free pudding and Jello. I haven't felt hungry yet. I was sleeved on 4/27. Good luck.

I had my sleeve on 28/4 and like others I am super hungry. I spoke to the nurse and she said that a rumbling stomach isn't necessarily a sign of hunger. Even though I've stuck mostly to fluids only I did eat a Cereal bar yesterday (I felt like I could've eaten 10!). I haven't felt full or sick or had any acid. It does make me wonder if there are only 5 holes in my stomach and the joke is on me!

@@Foxesoz IKR! I thought the same thing!! I ate an egg today for Breakfast though, and couldn't get the whole thing down...so I think it's working now that I am on soft foods and getting more than 30 gms of Protein,

Wtheck?! I'm 9 days post op and ate a whole egg this am with little fanfare. It took about 12 minutes. A stomach cramp or 2 but not bad. Admittedly, I started with a low BMI so it may be that my Dr gave me a bigger pouch.

I reported hunger to my doc about two weeks out, and he told me that after WLS, hunger is usually thirst in disguise. So m ake sure you're getting enough fluids, and after a while, that weird hunger will go away. Hang in there!

Yes this is VERY true even without surgery. About 7 years ago, when I really started gaining weight my doctor told me the same thing. I said to myself, "What does he know? Im really hungry!" Ughhh... Cant turn back time but can learn and move forward!

Hi,

I am 7 days out and fill the same way. my binder says to half 1/4 cup of Protein Shake for a small meal . I can sip a cup I take my time but have no problems at all.

I am with you my worst fear is it will not work. hopefully next week when we can have some cream of wheat we will fill some fullness!

Good luck

My sleeve is working properly as of today. I think it was a late bloomer. I should name her something to that affect. lol But I felt the fullness at breakfast. Could not finish my scrambled egg, but I could the other day. (weird). I am getting in all my fluids, I am measuring, and getting in my Protein, and I feel great. FINALLY!!!!

I spoke to the nurse again about my hunger and like all of you she said it's probably thirst. She also recommended that I take the antacid tablet in the morning. I don't know if it's coincidence but Today I'm not hungry at all!,

Yay! I think for all of us our biggest fear is it won't work but if you look through the forums for most people it does work.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
