Ok probably dumb question...

But I'll ask anyway. I'm just getting started and have my first appt on Friday, 5/1. I'm ok with the surgery and just about everything that goes with it. My problem?? A colonoscopy. Does everyone have one? This is something I am seriously having difficulty thinking about doing. I tear up just thinking about it. I have Cigna Open access in Texas and I know all my basic requirements. Nothing has been said about tests yet. I'm sooooo dreading this. I need positive enforcement here. Thanks in advance. Sorry I'm a 46 year old baby.

I did not have to have a colonoscopy for the procedure. I had an EKG, ultrasound of my liver and gallbladder, bloodwork. I have had a colonoscopy several years ago to rule out polyps or diverticulitis, turns out I just had IBS. And it was nothing! The bowel prep the day before was not fun because you do spend a lot of time on the potty. The procedure if for some reason you are required to have it is very simple. You go in get an IV, they give you an anethesia, you go to lala land and you wake up to them telling you not to go skateboarding that day or operate heavy machinery because of the drugs.

No pain, no memory...easy, peasy, lemon squeezy!

I didn't need a colonoscopy for surgical clearance, but I have had to have them due to family risk of colon cancer. It isn't THAT bad and not scary. The worst part is the prep.

I have had one, but not for my sleeve. Cleanse, whistling sh**s, nap, wake up and go home.

For my sleeve I had an ultrasound of my liver, cardiac clearance, EKG, and blood work.

I've had several colonoscopies. Like others have said ^^^ it's not a biggie. The prep is a drag. But even that is easier than it used to be.

What about it scares you?

I am 52 and it is time for one and it is scheduled May 19th. I will be taking two days off because of the prep day in because I don't want to deal with the public restroom at work. I had one in my early 30s and I went to sleep and I woke up and that was it. They were checking me out because I had bleeding hemorrhoids and because I was having some major stomach issues at the time. So they just saw my bleeding hemorrhoids and I had a red inflamed stomach. To me the only bad thing about the colonoscopy is that they won't let you go home until you fart. So you're basically in this recovery area where everybody else is from having colonoscopies and everybody's farting at the same time. I guess now that I'm older I don't really care as long as no one sees my face. But don't worry about it because you're asleep for the whole thing and just make sure you have someone that can drive you home because they won't release you to go home alone.

There was not even a mention of a colonoscopy. Unless you have some other warning signs for colon issues, you should be fine.

How old are you? If you are near 50 they are part of routine care. In fact I need to schedule mine. I look at it this way, no testing is more uncomfortable than dying of cancer because I was too scared of the test.

Referring to my earlier post I am just having one done because of my age. But when you get my age and you have to have one done don't be afraid of it. You'll be just fine

Thank you everyone!! Just had my initial consult and I am relieved to say no colonoscopy for me!! GOOD. That just creeps me out! My first dietician visit is May 13. Gotta do some labs and an EKG prior so, I'm on my way.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
