@@abbyrn27 how did you get that body weight ticker?

Hey there! I don't think you can do it from the mobile app. If you go on the full site there's an option to add one in your profile. It was really easy!

I checked the scale today since today marks 1 week post op. I've lost 11 lbs :o I went for a walk yesterday and have been tolerating fluids pretty good. I see the surgeon tomorrow so I can move to full liquids stage

Awesome!!!! I'm down 10! Can believe how fast is falling off.

Anyone else have times where you feel like you need a few more calories? I've had a couple episodes of what I think is low blood sugar. I'm not diabetic but I had gestational diabetes so I know the feeling well. Any thoughts?

yes, I find that focusing on Protein only sometime does not get me energy in the near term and occasionally gets me light headed. I adding a few more carbs in when one of those low points hit me and I find it passes quickly. My wife made a package of instant mashed potatoes 3 days ago, which I will get a tablespoon of and then add some chicken broth too. Heat and mix to a consistency you like (can be Soup, can be creamy). lunch or anytime I'm feeling weak.

Has taken 3 days to eat half a package, so don't think I am over doing it. Just my .02

Good advice !

It's crazy how each doctor differs. No drain for me and just surgical tape that I take off myself. And doctors mobile if any problems. Oh well suits me. I'm minimal intervention. Today I went for a boat trip on the Thames with my kids and a friend to do the lifting. And I made pizzas with my son. A really good day. The wound sites are still quite painful but my own mobility is nearly back to normal. Walked a good couple of miles.

Ok had my follow up today and following are latest stats.

Height: 6'2"

Program start weight: 394

Surgery day weight: 376

First post op weight: 363 (day 9 from surgery)

31 lbs down, on the way to goal weight of 233 lbs.

Drain removed (weird feeling, there was an extra foot in there y'all!) all ports are clear and showers ok'ed.

I'm now on purée foods and celebrated with a skinless baked potatoe with cheese, butter and sour cream mashed together into paste. I chewed well and made it 20% into it before full. Now I have 4 more meals in the fridge. Would love some ideas for puréed meals..

Need to get more Protein, only making about 50 grams in a day. And need to eat more times a day. I'm going to look into purée tuna salad, seafood salad, etc.

Still no strength training, but work out cautiously. Going to start some basic classes back..

All in all, feeling good...

I agree. There are tons of ideas on pinterest. As soon as I can eat soft foods I'm planning to make turkey meatballs with marinara, mozzarella and blend it up in a magic bullet.

I tried to eat a baked potato and could only get 2 spoonfuls before I felt like I was going to explode! I was sad because it looked and smelled so good lol This is what I needed though. A restricted way to make me limit the amount of food I can eat! Feeling grateful now :)

Today I got to meet with my surgeon who did my VGS back on the 19th and to my surprise he said that I could now start eating pureed foods. So later today after a nap, I had half of a small container of Greek Yogart, man was that good! I had half of the container and then for dinner had the other half. I also have managed most of today off the oxygen which is making me very happy because in the past it has always taken a while to get off. This evening since I don't drive my mom and I went to a few stores and got some food items that I can have but I did not even think about doing a baked potato but my parents might have instant mashed potatoes so I can use that. Another thing is that my weight is going down not much but it is going down, it is now at 281 pounds. Tomorrow I will try getting some more walking in.

Still liquids for me until Tuesday. But I don't mind really as even Soup is sometimes a struggle to get in. I braved starting to take my dressings off yesterday. Got one done. I'm such a coward! 3 more to go

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
