Weight, High cholesterol, and retinal problems

Crazy question

I have Retinoschisis. It is an eye disease characterized by the abnormal splitting of the retina's neurosensory layers I also have myopic degeneration and other fun stuff. I was wondering if anyone has ran across a doctor who may have metentioned anything about high cholesterol, and eye diseases?

Like I said, crazy question

Not crazy, at all! Do you, by chance, have diabetes, as well? That plays a large role in eye health. And while weight loss won't stop that type of eye issue, it may stop it in its' tracks. Did you ask your doctor about how weight loss might affect these other issues?

No I am not diabetic my sugars are great. I just have bad eyes. My concern right now is I have a bubble between two layers of the retina and the doctors actually not sure if it's a Fluid level or some sort of assist. So I was not sure if those sorts assist could be related to cholesterol

I am glad to hear your sugars are good, so that is not contributing to your eye issues. Have you tried searching the internet to see what you can find out? Are they going to send you to a specialist, or is the doctor you see already one? If the doctor you already see IS a specialist, they should be able to answer your questions, I would think. Keep after them, you deserve answers, the best they can give. In the meantime, you are in my prayers....all the best to you...

@@CanyonBaby Thank you for the prayers and support. I have done some research on the internet, but have not seen anything. I already see a specialist for my retinal issues. . I have been seeing retina doctors since 2009 I just never asked that particular question and was not sure if anyone else had ran across the same thing or not.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
