RMR Testing Anyone?

Recommended Posts

So now that I am almost 5 months out, the weight loss has really slowed (though not stopped). I was not sure what to do and thought maybe my metabolism was in the "toilet" and maybe I needed to cut back even more. I went to a center which does the RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) Test. It was very easy- breathing into a tube for about 15 minutes.

It turned out that if I sat around all day, I would be burning around 2000 calories! The doctor said that for my gender and age that was great! We then went over my daily calorie intake and what he told me was to add more of the "enemy"--- CARBS!!! He did qualify it to add that he was talking about good carbs like sweet potatoes, Quinoa, and brown rice for one week. He also told me to increase my calories from around 900 to 1500. This was on Monday evening.

Starting Tuesday I followed the advice and today the scale moved down for the first time in 2 weeks. I was happy.

The human body never ceases to amaze me...

Has anyone else had this test done? Has it changed how you ate?

Great progress!!! Congratulations!!

I think I'll give your MD's suggestion a try. I keep fluctuating within a 2-3 lb. range right now. A jump start is needed. My calorie intake is between 1000-1300 and primarily Protein.

I had an RMR prior to surgery, and haven't had one since. My surgeon's office has not said I needed to have it redone.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
