Okay so here is my problem. I am 2.5 months out and am down 90 pounds! However, I have not been tracking calories very well, the problem that I am facing is that I started tracking and certain foods that I am eating are high in calorie (nuts, meatloaf, so on) I need some ideas of foods I can eat that are lower calorie foods while still getting my Protein in. I am going to the gym 5 days a week and working my butt off so I am losing alot faster than some. But need help with this.

Thanks

Lean meats always work well, chicken, turkey, some cuts of beef such as filet or flank steak, eggs etc..

If you are losing steadily and you are working out, why are you concerned about your calorie intake? Reducing your calories when you are already losing can result in your metabolism slowing down, especially if you are exercising. You need to make sure you are taking in enough calories to sustain your level of activity.

If you really feel you need to reduce calories, cut back on fats. The foods you mention are high in fat and fat has 9 calories per gram, versus only 4 calories per gram of Protein. So if you stick to leaner Proteins, you will get more "bang for your buck" so to speak.

Down 90 pounds!!! Awesome!!! You're obviously staying the course :)

Some "go to" foods for me are (in no particular order):

  1. 4 oz. 2% cottage cheese (or less fat)
  2. powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powder mixed with various beverages, i.e. skim milk, SF drink mixes, etc.
  3. Low fat cheese/cheese sticks
  4. Beef Jerky (a favorite) (Aldi's/Simmons brand)
  5. Boiled egg
  6. Peanut Butter
  7. 1/2 cup black Beans w/meat (my made up "recipe")
  8. Yogurt
  9. Roasted chicken

These are typical things I keep on hand at work and home.

Also, I use SparkPeople to track my food and exercise which really helps keep me on track.

Good luck to you on your journey!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
