Hello everyone,

This is my first post. I have been peeking at your site for months reading your posts. I'm scheduled for LB on 6/21. That's probably the first time I've said that outloud. My story is the familiar one. Yo-yo dieting, comfort eating, no time for me. I am truly hopeful that the LB will be a tool to overcome the many pitfalls and vicious cycle I have subjected myself to over the past 10 years. It's odd--I'm not scared, it's almost as if I can't believe it is true that I'm actually going to go through with this.

What I have noticed the most while reading the posts these few months is that most everyone on this board who have/had weight issues are never at a loss to accept responsibility for the weight gain. It's like we know exactly what we do wrong but have trouble fixing it. Well seeing all the success stories it really makes me feel like I'm doing the right thing! Please wish me luck, as I have secretly done for all you who have been recently banded. I think this forum is great.

Mamota

Good Luck! Your surgery date is my 18 month Bandiversary. You are doing the right thing, my only regret is that I didn't do this sooner. I have been morbidly obese all of my adult life and this is the first time in my life that I feel "normal", whatever normal is. I walk in a room and don't feel like everyone is looking at me and thinking "WHAT A FAT PIG!" I never want to feel like that again. I'm glad that you're not scared, it means this is the right thing for you, in my opinion. Good luck again with your surgery.

Welcome and congratulations on taking control of your life. I was banded on 4/30/07 and I absolutely love it so far. I have not had a fill yet (will in 2 weeks from today), but I have already lost 34 pounds and I'm loving every minute of it. Just today I bought a dress that was not in the womans department. I couldn't believe it. I was a 22W and today I bought an 18. You are going to love everything about it. I wish you the very best of luck.

Tina

Way to go Mamota! Good Luck! I'm in the early steps, consultation scheduled for tomorrow. The more I read about others and their experiences, the less anxious I feel. The sooner I'd wish to be scheduled for the LB. Was the process long for you? I mean your scheduled 6/21 but how long before that did you have to wait?

Dear Mamota,

I remember feeling like I was having an out of body experience when I went to have surgery. I was so excited but I was thinking This is ME doing THIS!!??? . It was like winning something . Too good to be true.

Now 11 months post op if I had only heard of it sooner!!

Your surgery is on a Thur and if all goes well you will feel pretty normal by the next Wed . 1 week after I went back to lifting heavy dogs with no problem. When I would twist in bed sometimes I would feel like ohh I shouldn't move like that. If I would move carefully it would be ok. Then eventually I can do my usual tossing and turning.

Thanks for all the encouragement and appreciation of why we are are here. Lots of different reasons for lots of different folks. You can always find someone you can relate to.

I have two friends in cyber space that I am mentoring the best I can.

A big shout out (lol) for

Waitingtiljan banded jan 30 07 ( you GO girl)

&

Tanderson (newbie) banded June 4 07 ( my hand to her forehead ,be HEALED I say)

These two women are amazing to me (don't get me started) and I am so happy to have met them and help them with my band experiences with my band.

Thanks again to Alex .

from your soon to be band sister,

edie

Welcome Mamota and Congrates on your date !!!

We all could be diet doctors - we all have been on almost every diet there is out there - we know what we are doing wrong - the problem is that we can't help our selves - we need the tool of being banded... We are addicted to food - we are worst off than a druggies as they can quit drugs and keep them out of the house - We need food to live - so our drug of choice is in our face every day... No wonder we fail...

With the band we have the tool to help us control our intake

I'm in the preband mode - doing all the testing - hopefully Aug I will get banded. Good Luck and will keep you in our prayers

Good Luck and I know you will do well especially because you will be banded on my birthday. I was a secret reader for a long, long time before I ever posted anything.....it is still hard sometimes for me to post, I don't know why, but I love this site and have gotten so much support even though I have been silent alot.....but I have to remember, I need to post so other people can maybe benefit from what I have to say like I did with them. GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Who is your doctor and what is your goal?

Thank all for you encouraging words. I see the success that some of you have had and I pray that I too can succeed. For those that are still pre-band stage I hope your experience was as easy as mine in getting this all approved.

Some one asked me my goal etc. so My goal is 100 lbs. my BMI is 41. It seems like so much. I am in North Jersey, my Doctor is Stephanie Vaimakis at Englewood Hospital Medical Center. I love her and her staff if wonderful. THe procedure, band, fills is covered 100%. I read how much some of you struggle to have this approved or have self-payed and I am even more impressed. Simply amazing. I'll let you know how it goes.

Good luck, Mamota. I've just started the process and am looking at about 3 months til I get pre-certified by my insurance. I don't care how long it takes because I know this is the best thing for me.

I wish you the very best and a speedy recovery.

Susan

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
